Just picked up 500 rounds of 22LR at my local Sportsman's Warehouse.
5.5 cents a round, $30 with tax out the door.
Also I walked into Palmetto State Armory and thought the Tooth Fairy had finally delivered. Must have been 20k primers. On closer inspection they were all 209 Shotgun Primers.
What a bummer.
That's foolish - those of us who are shotgunners would likely trade SPP and LPP for those - you blew it

Thunderbolts are absolutely the last rimfire ammo I would pay money for. Junk.
<chuckle> When I read the @SUBJ that is the first thing that came to mind.

I do not often shoot .22RF but I don't think that I have ever read a truly positive review of Thunderbolts.

This thread did cause me to check my stock, though ... and in addition to the ~9000rds that I remembered having, I found 3 300pks of MiniMags that I got with my last Rebate exercise acoupla years ago. Forgotten ammo. Feels a bit like Christmas. :)

EDIT:

BTW, 1500 of that 9000 dates back to the 70s or 80s. Did I mention that I do not often shoot .22RF? ;)

200 boxes ww 5.56 at 9 am, none at 4PM (bi-mart). Thats 100 buyers at 2 boxes each or one buyer making 100 trips to the car.

FWIW: Cabelas has ingeniously solved the empty ammo shelf issues- They removed the ammo shelves!!! At least one Cabelas employee is a vitriolic, illegitimate, male and has ended my interest in buying anything from them. (springfield or). Must be from being asked "where's the ammo???"" 10,000 times.

While I will not be using Thunderbolts for league competition, I have never had a mis-fire or dud with them.
They shoot fairly well in various lever guns, right alongside Federal Champions, AE bulk, and CCI Blazers.

I recently traded 3000 CCI Mini-Mags (over rated solids and the lesser performing HP's) for 7 bricks of Thunderbolt
and I know I got the best end of the trade.
They are, hands down, the top performing ammo in my Uzi conversion.
Any other ammo gives a feeding/functioning jam just often enough, but Thunderbolts are 100% reliable.

I've ran 1 bulk box thru my TX22, it all worked great but you could hear how inconsistent that loads were in just one magazine

Interesting, it has been quiet some time since I ran them but the last time I tried they turned my 10/22 into a jam-O-matic and I had several duds per brick, and a few those did not fire on second+ strikes. CCI runs the best in all three of my semi-auto 22LRs. If I had any Thunderbolts they would get used in manual actions.

My bobcat 21a likes stingers and thunderbolts. Minimag solids are okay in it. Everything else is a crap shoot.
The thunderbolts are greasy and dirty but they seem to work for me...

I’ve had misfires with most every brand of .22 LR over the past six-seven years or so.

Just last week I couldn’t get CCI Mini Mags to seat in the chambers of my newly acquired S&W 34-1 but Armscor loads would.

A couple different Aguila loads have had more misfires lately in my Ruger autos than I recall them having before. (They switched from “Eley Prime”, I don’t know if this is why.)

Win, Rem and Federal bulk and small-box rounds have their fair share of no-go’s, but will fire if rotated and reshot. I’ll guess it’s just a gap in priming compound under the rims.

I will say I haven’t had any issues with Norma branded ammo but I haven’t shot much of it. I’ve never had a dud with RWS, Aguila Match and CCI Green Tag... but of course we pay more for these so that’s not unexpected. :)

Thunderbolt ammo is ok in my guns, it’s as accurate as the other stuff and has duds at roughly the same rate, too.

Hoprfully the high water marks have been reached and the $$ starts receding like flood waters do.

Stay safe.
