Do you think the gun manufacturers and ammo manufatures are doing enough?

I don't. I can't find ammo or reloading components. Guns are hard to find now. All are more than happy to ask us, as gun owners, to contribute a little on our firearm purchases for the goodness of the cause.

Are they there for us now? Are they stepping up to the plate to provide us with the things we need to continue our shooting hobby? No they are not.

In the cart? You purchase price, shipping, and a donation for your favorite gun supporting organization.

After that call 1-800-have a nice day. Cause we are forever done with you as a customer unless you give us some more money.

Don't blame the sellers. Blame the buyers. Everything is getting sold out as soon as it hits the shelves or website.

It's a sellers market. This is what happens in a sellers market. It doesn't matter what the product is. Simple Econ 101 stuff.

A lot of the stuff we buy in the US gun market comes from relatively small companies. They can't make everything they sell all at the same time. They switch through manufacturing different products in batches.

Hmmmm. I don’t have a problem with the gun and ammo situation.....yet....and probably not until some anti gun legislation may be passed. Will you learn from this or just keep keeping on?

How exactly are pro gun lobbyist organizations supposed to help you get guns and ammo? They are a little busy protecting your rights to own them at all.

I blame the manufactures and sellers for not being aggressive enough to keep up with the demand. They are certainly a power in the force. When we run out of ammo we can blame a politician. A 45 acp Democrat caused me not to be able to shoot today.

Comforting. After all that's all we need to do.

Ammo Manufacturing - Yes, they are working flat out 20/7/365. Maybe they (Federal, Remington) could switch to three 8 hour shifts instead of two 10’s?

If you don’t think they are doing enough, then do something about it. Start an ammunition company.

I have no idea about gun makers. But stuff seems available. I bought two guns in the past week, new.

I agree the manufacturers are doing all they can. People are buying everything up in a panic. Yea, OK, I get it, I sympathize and all ..... but I do wish people would stock up especially on ammo during the plentiful times when the good guys are in political ascendancy so we don't all have to scramble for slim pickins in times like this??????

You sound incredibly unprepared for tough times (plus you're whining). Plan better for next time.

I don't want to come off harsh, but IMO unless you have ever owned and operated a firearm or ammo manufacturing company, what right do you have to say they're not doing enough? Do you have insider information regarding their operational capacities or lack thereof? There have been multiple statements by reps from ammo manufacturers that they are running full bore to produce as much as they possibly can. Sounds to me like you just didn't adequately prepare for times like this. This isn't the first panic which has affected the firearms community, and it sure won't be the last. Plan better next time, stack it deep while it's readily available.

I know. Those lazy gits sitting back fat and happy, running half shifts and 30 hour weeks because they just can't be bothered to make more profits. Why, I bet all the gun and ammo CEOs are sitting around at the Big Gun Club on Amelia Island with the Planters Peanut Man, polishing their monocles and laughing about how there would be no shortages of anything if they would just lift a finger, other than the middle one. I mean, how hard is to just double capacity? They just ring up MachineCo and say " Send me another 200 ammunition lines, and primer makers while you're at it, tell the idle barstewards in operations to knock up another 50,000 square feet of factory and hire another 2,000 illegals so they can double production by the end of the month. And they can tell the shareholders to jump if they are concerned about the investment and idle capacity when the inevitable downturn occurs.

Too right.

What is the basis of "I don't"? Worked in the firearms business for over fifty years and still have people speaking to me on a regular (weekly) basis. I know that these folks with are doing everything possible to fulfill demand. So you can't find "ammo or reloading components"? Anyone with a computer can see where they are going and what's happening. Look at the auction sites -- there's tons of ammuntion and almost as much reloading components. Was in one shop today that had boxes of 9mm for $50; guy walks in a buys it all while bragging that he's "gonna put it on the 'puter and make a fortune." Your wonderful fellow shooters and reloaders are raking you over the coals while putting a couple of pieces of silver in their pockets. It's no mystery.

It is the greedy, panicked consumer that is responsible for this shortage, along with a year of shutdowns due to COVID. People seem to forget that. It all started last year when Democrat leaders allowed their constituents to riot, loot, burn and pillage. People seem to forget that too.

Contrary to the rhetoric of politicians and the evening news, the firearms industry isn't a "too-big-to-fail" monstrosity. It's a pimple on the ass of big pharma. It costs millions of dollars to expand production. It also takes time. It simply makes no sense whatsoever to invest in that expansion for what is a temporary situation, when the temporary situation could easily be over with by the time they're online with more manufacturing capacity. This too, shall pass.

There is no supply problem, there is a big demand problem. The only way things return to normal is when people stop paying high prices which should be easy to do since ammunition isn't a necessity. But, it seems that many people are only to happy to pay the current prices. It's within the realm of possibility that at some point in the not too distant future new legislation might result in a situation that makes the current prices seem cheap. If I was low on ammo I'd happily pay these prices to put some away just in case.

I very much disagree with the OP on this issue. Like any business, Gun and ammo makers want to make money, and at the present time, they are making lots of money. But should they add a 2nd or third shift, which would entail recruiting good people, training them, only to lay them off once this madness is over? And guess who contributes the most to a state's unemployment fund that covers laid off workers? The employers.

Should these businesses add more equipment that will soon be mothballed? Hell no. I've read on gun forums something more extreme, that these companies should build new factories, and staff and equip them. That would be stupid, for a short term run on the products they make.

Many people, me included, feel a lot of the shortage is due to hoarders and re-sellers. I have read, mostly on rimfire forums, that there are shooters who are now tapping into the supply of ammo they squirreled away during the last shortage and they are still buying more, even as they complain about the price. . Huh? Then there are people who never hoarded before now buying everything they can find, and at extreme prices. Example: Remington Golden Bullets that I paid 7 cents a round for last spring and early summer, now going for 20 cents a round and up.(as per AmmoSeek.com) Insanity. People had got to quit buying at that price. Sorry so long winded, Rant over..

".... enough?"

Yes, yes I do.

They are not some trumped up social service and we have no *right* to their wares.

Gosh, maybe we should have Congress look into being underserved.

I mean underserved by the industry - I expect it from Congress.:scrutiny:

Todd.
Yep, they are working hard to supply product, many contribute to pro gun causes, it's just frustrating right now, for everyone.
Vote pro gun, if Congress was full of pro gun critters we would not be going through this.

Half of the people posting on here, know how to manufacture ammo. I'd guess that plenty of those also know how to manufacture primers and cases as well.

Don't like it, start an ammo company.

I stocked up enough beforehand, to have an acceptable stockpile for serious use and a minimum amount of training. If the supply catches up with demand, I'll order enough for a few years of sporting use as well.

I have enough for life if things get bad, but not enough to play with.

I think we're about a hundred years out from actual hard times as a nation, and it's really starting to show.

Geez.

The ammo supply chain was set up for 100 million sometime shooters, 10 million regular shooters and maybe 2 to 3 million heavy shooters. Now grow that by 8 million new shooters and for political reasons increase regular shooters by a few million and add another 8 million to people buying huge amount of ammo out of fear they won’t ever be able to buy it again because of anti freedom politicians. Now on top of that shut/slow down assembly lines on a regular basis because of covid19 and what do you have, the situation we are in now. No business could react to that.
All that said, I have been hearing people in the know say for the last 4 years say stock up now when it’s cheap it won’t stay this way. We have had shortages before and we will again, buy cheap sell high(actually buy cheap shoot your stock pile when prices are high).

I think where the ammo makers have made mistakes(from a buyer's perspective) is letting online only ammo resellers sell this stuff for 2-3 times as much as some big box resellers sell ammo for. Bass Pro-9mm FMJ-$15 per 50, $.30 per..Online today? Anywhere from $.60 to $.70 per..Do these giganto online places have the $ power to get ammo? Do they pay more for it?

on wikiarms..there is 6+ PAGES of 9mm for sale.

Big box stores try to keep pricing down to get you inside their stores.

Online only guys could care less. Their price reflects their inventory. Low inventory = high pricing.

I think the factories are charging more, to keep the 3rd shift happy. But I'll bet that they're making as much as they can, because of the current higher profit margins.

I can't see if they're limited by Covid or a primer shortage?

There was a surplus of firearms and everything related to them until a year or so ago when the panic set in for certain reasons which I won't go into as I don't want another post removed. The firearms industry was hurting financally up to then. I'm sure they are making everything they are capable of producing. The world wide covid shutdown has affected everything from raw material supply to the manufacture. I know most people want what they want and want it NOW. Sometimes due to factors you can't have it and I don't blame the producers.
