Just got my brand spanking new Redding Model 3BR powder measure and when I tried seating the clear plastic hopper cylinder, it wouldn’t fit ... too large. I even tried using a boxcutter to shave the sharp edge of the plastic cylinder but to no avail.

Anyone else have this problem?

I dont own a redding but I do have a RCBS uniflow. The hopper on my uniflow is a interference type fit. I Installed a new one on mine and it required a rubber mallet. Maybe the redding is the same?

Use a rubber mallet? Care to elaborate?

Try both ends. One may fit better than the other. I dont know if they use cast or extruded but the stability of extruded is a lot less and it's cheap so that would be my first guess.

With my uniflow I sat the hopper on my work bench and placed the powder measure upside down on top and tapped on the threaded part with a rubber mallet until it was fully seated. On the model of uniflow I have the hopper normally comes installed and I dont think they are designed to be removed but my original hopper got damaged so I replaced it. Now that I think about it with a powder measure that comes new without the hopper installed you would think it would be a fairly easy fit.

My Redding 10-X has two set screws in the housing where the bottom of the hopper fits. There are holes n the end of the hopper that the scews set in and keep the hopper in place.

The picture of the 3BR on Redding’s web site shows those scews there in the housing.

Make sure the scews are backed out before inserting the hopper.

Of course Redding could have changed the design.

Two screws that requires an upgrade in hammer size right. ;)

It’s a tight fit, alright. Inspect the exterior area of tube around screw holes for a slight lip
from drilling. Hit with sandpaper.

Fill a coffee cup with boiling water. Put the bottom inch of the plastic tube in it for a minute. Remove and quickly wipe off the water. Then insert in housing. I did this with my new Lyman 55 measure reservoir.
I used that a lot on nylon tubing for aquariums. I am intrested to hear if it works. The maluable temperature may be warmer than water but I have bent pvc with a strip heater.

Can’t. I need 2 holes for the dog point screws that attach the cylinder to the base and the other end doesn’t have those holes.

If it fits two small holes are easy to do and the ones on top would be no big deal... best option is to contact the manufacturer directly.

I had trouble with my 10X replacement hopper.
I e-mailed Redding about the problem and a new hopper showed up at my door in just a couple days, no charge.

I have a Redding 3BR that is NIB with both pistol and rifle metering devices. I am planning to upgrade the hopper using a Dramworx glass hopper. Check it out: https://dramworx.com/products/redding/

I also own a NIB Franklin Arsenal Intellidropper. I plan to use both for reloading on my MEC.
I ordered one for my Redding powder measure and one for my RCBS Uniflow powder measure.

I’ve had glass hoppers on my measures for over 10 years. They’re hard to appreciate until you’ve used one.

Just got my dramworx for my RCBS (after ruining the original hopper) -- way nicer than I expected.

I told the guy (Ward) if he ever needed someone to sing praises for his products, let me know!
