Why was the Aut-O-Cap(not the Tap-O-Cap) discontinued? Any of you old timers knows why? Was it unpopular? It didn’t work well as advertised? Right product but wrong timing kind of thing? Curious to know.

Might not be of any help but I googled Forster Aut-o-Cap and for a lot of hits of forum complaints. Seems performance was adequate, but making caps and keeping them seated were major problems.

I'd think one designed for centerfire primers would sell well today...

Update: So I got what I assumed was a “Tap-O-Cap” cap maker but upon arrival it was a “Aut-O-Cap” instead!! Tried it out and making caps couldn’t be any better!! Press mounted percussion cap maker is the way go!! Not sure why they discontinued it given how much better it is than the current version. Less fatigue, more consistent, consistent pressure, no pounding involved, no worries about hitting your thumbs(hurts like hell), more uniform shape, quicker production rate and can punch copper sheets with no real efforts. This is definitely better than the Tap o cap version.
