X-treme bullets

I picked up some x-treme 38 special 158 grains flat top bullets. I’m kind of new to this type of bullet, I need a little direction on which data book I should use. I have Speer, Sierra, Hornady and Lyman’s but I can’t find anything that is close to the x-treme bullet.
Also Has anyone had any issues with these bullets?
 
Use the Speer data. Speer's TMJ and GDHP bullets are also plated.
 
Only my targets have issues with x-treme bullets. :eek:
I have used several 1,000 of the 125 gr hp
They don't mushroom, the HP is just for show.

I've loaded 'em with TiteGroup, Universal, Trail Boss, W231, W296, Accurate #2 & #5.
Why so many powders?
Just cuz I can, and wanted to know if any of the powders worked better than others.
All of 'em worked fine but at different loads.
296 liked a 357 load, not so much with 38 Spl.
The rest of 'em worked fine in 38 & 357, but none really stood out in 357 except the 296
Accuracy was fine, but speed was lacking.
 
I use any trusted load data source. Start low and work up, though I stay away from the top end as these plateds won't hold together as well as FMJ/HPs. The X-Treme heavy plate conical base versions can.
 
I’ve loaded hundreds and hundreds of Extreme and Berrys plated bullets.

I will assume since you listed them as .38 Special bullets you’re loading for .38 Special gun(s).

You didn’t mention a powder you want to use, so we will he throwing out our favorite loads and powders. Hopefully we hit one you like.

Standard velocity .38 Specials I like to load for that bullet is 4.2 gr Unique. Max for me is 4.5 gr in a K frame or larger revolver, in J frames (steel or air weights) they get a bit too lively for me.

I’ll also go with AA #5, HP-38, IMR Target and Bullseye using their load data for 158 gr SWC bullets.

Don’t go with a mega roll crimp, a light to medium roll crimp is what you’ll want. (Too much crimp can cut or damage the plating and affect the bullet negatively.)

I have loaded tons of those with 3.5gr of Titegroup. I have gone as low as 3.2gr and up to 3.8gr with them, but 3.5 works fine
 
Most any of the medium to fast burn powders work fine with a taper crimp. Slower powders or hard to light powders that need to build pressure to burn better, or more completely, like IMR 4227, H110, 2400 and so on, work better with a roll crimp.
But techniquely you can use any power with a roll crimp, just not with a taper crimp.
Look at the powders used in the semi auto calibers if you want to see what powders are good for taper crimp.
 
WST , Accurate # 2 or Bullseye are all fine 38 Special powers. Then there is Unique which works with any thing, almost. I've used them all with good results. Depends on what you have or can get.
 
just remember, plated bullets w/o a cannalure do not like roll crimps. it can cause a fracture in the plating.
 
I taper crimp them, the X-Treme bullet can handle a pretty tight taper crimp, if needed. Shouldn’t need it for this application
 
Xtreme (38)158grain FP and 125 grain FP is all I've used since starting reloading in December. I've been using HP-38 and data from Hodgdons using 158 and 125 HDY XTP data successfully. Hodgdons data for HDY 158 grain XTP starting at 3.8 and maximum of 4.3 grains of HP-38. 38+P is max of 4.6 grains HP-38. I load 4.3-4.4 grains in 38 cases for shooting in my 38+P revolvers. I've been using the Xtreme 158 for light 357 too.
