Quick question about a GunBroker purchase

Interesting. That would seem unethical to me, to remove negative feedback. So, then for every other buyer on gunbroker this would mean the rating means nothing at all and is useless. How do you know they do this? My understanding is sellers will jump through hoops to aviod negative feedback, but if that is not the case, want to know. Have not been on GB actively buying anything for a few years, so - maybe I am out of data with the times.

I personally have never had any issues with any sellers on GB, all positive experiences.

I had an issue with an unethical seller on GB. He was a high volume seller with thousands of positive feedbacks and a 100% feedback rating. I paid over $1K for a Colt 6920, and when I asked for a shipping date the seller told me it was he didn't actually have it but he would ship it sometime in the next few months when it was back in stock. I asked for a refund and the seller refused to refund me initially, then once I got the law involved he charged me a 20% "restocking fee" before refunding my payment. I left a negative review but it was removed after a day or two. The only action that GB took during the process was to erase the review I left after the ordeal.

I think we’ve established that GB is going to remove any negative feedback you give. If the gun is all good, enjoy it and make it a point not to send any more business their way. And spread their name around the forums.

I learned long ago, that most sellers are honest, but a lot of the guns I tend to buy are being sold by guys in their 70's and one guy was 92, getting "ready to go" and selling all his stuff to give to his 20 year younger widow, so speed is not in the picture. Shipping times ranged from almost instant to several weeks. One guy called me from his hospital bed, he had a heart attack and left me a message saying he was sorry but he had to have a stent put in and it would be a few more days until he was up and around. It was a great gun, and worth the wait. Unless I'm buying from a store, I have a lot of patience with ship times. As long as it comes eventually, it's all good. I haven't been screwed over yet.

I have no problems finding negative feedback on sellers, even from their own "Top sellers lists".

2 sides to every story.

I'm disappointed in GB. These posts demonstrate the need for an overhaul. I've learned to never try to pay though GB's payment system. I didn't lose any money, but spent a lot of frustrating time. trying to figure it out. It has been very helpful to contact the seller directly and I've saved some money that way too. I hope GB will take these issues seriously. They have a very popular site that all of us use in one way or another. Hope they don't squander it with poor management.

Do you leave feedback? Interesting question. I personally have stopped leaving feedback on any online purchases because I no longer believe it is simply posted as-is. I’ve seen too many cases where my posts were “lost,” including a really smarmy email from Amazon saying I’d “violated their review guidelines”—for noting an item wasn’t even remotely as-described. Posting the details elsewhere (like here) is much more likely to be uncensored. Hopefully your gun will turn out to be as-advertised.

Well, I will find out tomorrow that's when it should arrive at my transfer FFL according to the tracking.

hey at least your more patient then the guy i sold to. I offered quicker means of payment, refused and wanted to do a MO. So I accepted. Once it went into my account I notified him (also notified when I recieved it the day before) I asked my bank when the MO would clear they stated a couple of days I also notified him of this. I shipped it out 4 days later because its not my full time job selling stuff and work held me over several times and with how usps closes at 3pm here (hour away for one that closes at 5) which ive been reasonable with others ive bought from, but because usps has been horrendous in speed and notifying of tracking the guy started getting pissy af. I kept tell him it was shipped gave him a tracking already but guy claimed it was still showing as not shipped. It was not a good deal. Guy even asked me to not charge shipping which I did not charge him shipping even. Should of charged him...

But I would recommend calling the seller direct OP and ask if they shipped it or not. (sometimes they dont post it on gunbroker that its been shipped and sometimes there are delays or bad employees) call them to nudge them but dont get irrate either.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I've been ripped off by sellers on GB so many times -- even by sellers with an A+ rating and hundreds of sales -- that I can't keep track. My success rate on GB is just about 50% while it's 100% on other sites.
Links to one of those sellers?
How many auctions?

I go through the "official process" on GB and nothing happens. The sellers have even relisted the same item within hours of me telling GB that it's a rip off. None of the negative feedback that I've left every has appeared on GB! A couple of dealers I know have even found guns that had been stolen from them listed on GB and GB refused to do anything.
I believe that.
GunBrokers lack of customer service is legendary.

The most popular current scam is to insist that the buyer pay with an electronic transfer -- they get the money and the buyers get the headache of trying to convince their credit card company that it was a scam.
Links to such auction or sellers?

GB bans me and I register under a different name and the game goes on. Right now GB hasn't banned me yet
Which is it?

but they blocked me from asking questions because I flat out ask sellers about issues that make me suspicious and if they're scam artists.
Thats not GunBroker blocking you, its the seller.

For some reason GB doesn't allow such "offensive" (their word) questions.
No, it's more likely the seller just doesn't have time to answer questions from tire kickers.

The only real take-away is to never risk more money than you're willing to loose. For example, right now there's an item that really interests me; I'm pretty certain it's a scam; the guy only has one sale and it appears it's to a friend of his; and he demands either a bank check or electronic payment -- no USPS money order accepted.
His auction, his form of payment. What do you think is magical about a USPS money order?

So I promised you guys I would tell you how this all turned out finally got the gun today it was as advertised a Ruger LCP 2 new in the box.
I like the gun by the way except because of the very small frame it can be somewhat awkward to rack
Already managed to pinch my fingers. The indoor range at my transfer FFL was all full up as it tends to be on Friday so I haven't had a chance to try it yet

Not true and not established. No they don't remove negative feedback. The buyer or seller that's the target of the negative feedback is allowed to post a reply giving their side of the story, but the negative feedback rating and its accompanying comment are NOT removed. Eventually, in time, it will scroll off, as all feedback ratings do. But GB is one place where you get to see the good, bad and the ugly of all buyer and seller transactions and what they had to say about it. It's up to each individual to judge the credibility of the feedback report. GB is one site that stays neutral wrt user ratings of other users. They have nothing to gain by censoring feedback. Note: my comments here do NOT apply to transactions under dispute. Obviously there's no point or benefit in publishing ratings for transactions where the outcome is still undecided or an account was suspended.

When looking at feedback you must read all comments related. I sold some ammo recently and after the sale the buyer said he didn't want it and asked me to cancel the auction. Seriously? I told him if he would pay my fees and something for loss of income and delayed sale I would do so. He refused. I relisted and after almost three weeks it sold again, but the original buyer left negative feedback for me saying he offered to pay my selling fees only. Not satisfactory. So don't assume a negative feedback has anything bad to say about the seller, or buyer. By the way I generally ship the day after receiving payment and always email the buyer the UPS tracking number. It's not hard to do.

I've sold on gunbroker a couple dozen times. I've had sellers email me asking why I haven't shipped before I ever even recieved payment in the mail. Not saying that's what's happening. I just just think people have grown accustomed to instant shipping. Give him a couple more days.

I don't have any use for a seller who makes themselves unavailable for communication.

Hell, I just struck up a trade on another site where I was doing the other person a solid. I told them I'd send them the three boxes of bullets. When they got the bullets and were satisfied I told them they could then send me the items they were trading to me. I also told them that work was a little crazy and that it might be a few days before I shipped. I was able to ship the day after we made the deal. I messaged the other party and told them I had shipped and gave them the tracking number. The other party was provided my cell number right off the bat too.

Even on a deal where I assumed all of the risk, I told the other party what to expect and communicated each step of the process. It took me all of 30 seconds. I'd do the same thing if I was selling 100 guns per day.

Many businesses have notes that indicate it is taking 5-10 days to ship. That's fine. Customers just want to know what to expect. Managing expectations and communicating when you can't meet those expectations is what distinguishes the good from the rest. Those are the kind of sellers who win my repeat business.

I am somewhat saddened by what I see around me. Us Americans are allowing excuses in others. We are accepting mediocrity or worse rather than demanding excellence. It is rare that have bought a Ruger that didn't have an issue that ranged from minor to substantial. As I tell the stories of those guns on these pages, many readers are dismissive. "What do you expect dranrab, it's a $400 gun?" Boat prices have been high and soaring, and the industry standard is for boats to be delivered to the customer with defects. RVs manufacturers are perhaps the most notorious.

Well some years ago I purchased a cheap holster from a vendor that had a 100% rating. Paid immediately and waited. Emailed after 2 weeks and asked about if they had shipped. Crickets. Waited 2 more weeks and emailed again, still crickets. Waited yet another 2 weeks and another email asking if it may be lost in shipping. Still no reply. About a week and a half later holster arrives. I post feedback about excessively long time to get product and zero replies to multiple emails. They give me a F rating and say that this is their buisness I am damaging and to change my feedback. I checked their feedback a week later and my negative feedback had been removed. Stopped using GB at that point. I had almost 200 transactions IIRC. Their loss not mine. Just sayi'n.

You are absolutely wrong.

And what's the status of your account with Gunbroker?

I don't know, the last time I logged in was after I saw GB erased my feedback and I stopped trusting them as an honest business.

Multiple people here are telling you the same thing, GB erases negative feedback. Its obvious you have a bias towards GB but my experience and the experience of others here trumps your lack of experience in GB's customer service and policies regarding disputed auctions and the scammers GB knowingly allows to continue to use their website to conduct their scams.

Ah ... you don't know. If your account was cancelled or if the unethical seller's account was cancelled then there's no reason to retain feedback for transactions involving either account. This is a missing piece of your story. If Gunbroker is deleting negative feedback, or if they're allowing users to delete negative feedback, how is it I'm able to read negative feedback? I still stand by comment.

Good for you. You are obviously a GB fan boy, as evidenced by your previous posts concerning the subject and by how you are bending over backwards here to justify GB's shady actions, so I really don't care if I convince you one way or the other.
