Another "Primer!!" thread. If yer willin' to pay that much...

Just cruising through a bunch of reloading forums and noticed a thread; "I bought some large pistol primers" and a link. I went to the vendor and saw CCI large pistol primers 1,000 for $189.00. They were gracious enough to add "no hazmat fees". I'll remember this vendor and delete them from my possible vendor list...

I'm deeply offended by the opportunist get-rich-quick non-dealers who'll buy up ammo or loading supplies - having family or other pawns buy it up to avoid the 'xxx per customer' limits and then scalp the merchandise as high as they can. Some of my gun show vendor friends have mentioned a few folks who will offer to buy a firearm for 'this' number of primers. Or whatever.

My attitude is they can eat it. I'll wait until I can get what I want for ordinary retail.

Yep, seems like every time this happens 2 or 3 of my vendors join that list. Sad really, you think you've found companies to do business with and then their true colors come out. I try to empathize and look at the bigger picture but facts are facts.
And exactly WHAT facts are those? That prices have gone up? Yep they have across the board. Are some suppliers having trouble getting anything to sell? Yep, so they have to price for replacement costs. Are they gouging? NO, they are not. They are simply offering a product for sale; if you don't like, don't buy it; someone else will who truly needs it.

Unfortunately, the high prices and
shortages are a sad fact of life in the
21st century. There are more than one
reason for it, but none of us can do
anything about it. I used to try to talk
to people about gun issues like this, but
I never really got anywhere other than
getting really disillusioned myself because
so many are fairly apathetic to the gun
related issues. People will pay whatever
it takes to have a pizza or a roll of toilet
paper or a brick of 22 or whatever as
long as nobody rocks their boat and the
power and water stays on and the cellphones work.

I dont have a big list of people I buy from so maybe that protects me. Powder valley, BPS, Academy, and RMR. If they dont have what I want I just dont get it. I would be sad if anyone in my circle played games but I havent seen it. Retail is about making profits but each player in the game has their own limits.

The fact that overnight (and before the rest of the industry started to slightly increase their prices for exactly what you said) they raised their prices 10 fold. WELL before things really dried up too.

Believe me I hear you and agree replacement costs play into the prices we pay today but, to me, it's obvious when a business is doing shady stuff.

BTW, the stuff they raised prices on to insane levels is still there and plenty of it. Apparently I am not alone or else they wouldn't have much stock to sell

I've become a big fan of Bass Pro/Cabelas. When they get ammo or components, they sell them at their regular price. Two weeks ago, I paid .36 per round for 9mm, and .56 a round for 45 ACP, with a 250 round limit per person They had 4,000 primers but we were too far back in line to get them. I'll remember them, and patronize them after this is over, even if it's an hour's drive to get there. The employees were all helpful and polite also.

I sympathize with you 100%. But, I have to admit, I've quit blackballing vendors that I never bought anything from in the first place, nor even heard of until somebody complained about them gouging other people that I don't know. ymmv

You can always report the ones that are not shipping them properly to the shipping companies. By they time they get through paying fines and possible jail time, they may be stuck selling them locally. And for a loss due to the fines eating up there would be profit. This would curtail the ones that are not actually users of primers.

They are a little high on primers IMHO.

BUT I bought 2,000 there recently for $4.99 a 100, and walked out with a smile on my face.

But $50 a 1,000 is a lot less than $189/1,000, which I wouldn’t pay.

I’ve found primers in the last 3 months cheaper at Scheels and Sportsmans, but only 10-15% cheaper. And is it fair to compare 12/2020 to 3/2021? I’m not sure.

Hmm prices are coming down. A couple of weeks ago the profiteers were trying to get $300 per 1000

I drive 40 minutes to browse at Cabelas! they will always be on my list. I also buy there other stuff line fishing line, taffy, children toys, some clothing

Every time this happens it's the same vendors who jack the prices and we hear the same claims of "I'll never buy from them again" and when things settle down the same places currently jacking prices remain. Nothing new and nothing changes.

I am back to using my Cabela's card for everything. I was using my Harley Davidson card but I got tired of getting Harley bucks so now it's back to Cabela's bucks. :) Same, about 1 40 min drive to my local Cabela's (Avon Lake, Ohio).

And if enough people stick with that it will send a message. When you want to hurt a business or get their attention you hit them in the wallet. :)

Actually mine is not low and loud, rather, like me, and most of my taste in guns, nostalgic. I ride a '92 Electro Glide so more of a laid back road bike. :) Even my AR rifles are basic retro now that I think about it.
