Hi All-

I am getting these marks on my once fired .223 brass. Any idea what they are from? Is the brass still good?

Thanks

Crap sorry, been shooting in the heat all day, here. It's 0025 deep.

Most production AR's are over gassed so they will cycle whimpy, cheap steel cased ammo. Put some hot, NATO spec ammo in them and they become WAY overgassed.

A heavier buffer will help but, ideally, a gas port with the correct diameter is in order.

I've got a Wilson Combat Wylde 18 inch barrel, and I was shooting M855, but all my loads do it as well. I was mainly worried it was a chamber inconsistency.

Like said impact marks from the brass hitting the deflector during injection. Also the ejector spring in the bolt by default way too strong. The military wanted the chamber cleared with no chance of a jam. I cut about 1-1.5 coil off the ejector spring. For a test with the BCG/bolt out, place a piece of brass under the extractor and flex it back to the bolt face. The release and see how may feet it throws the brass, new ones 10'+. With the cut spring it reduces that distance to 1/2. This also reduces the force the brass is slung against the deflector.

At what direction is the brass being tossed? Forward....

On a properly tuned AR the ejection should be in the 3:00-4:30 direction.

Agree a heavy buffer is a help. I ended up with a heavy buffer and adjustable gas block.
