Storage solutions

I have ammo cans for each caliber. Any firearm that uses clip get and extra ammo can that will hold ammo and clips. Some calibers have multiple cans, some just have loose ammo in them and others have plastic ammo boxes stacked in the ammo can.

As an old guy with just an iPad and zero computer skills, I’d prefer an old fashioned label maker.

I got the skills but I'm with you. I buy stick on labels and use a Sharpie.

I thought I was organized but Rembrandt made me look like I have clutter!! Well done, I know what my weekend project is now!

Not sure how many tool boxes I have, but find the drawer system of storage convenient for organizing things. Keep an semi accurate inventory count of ammo, powder, etc.

I have one of these cabinets to store most of my reloading stuff.

The one pound & 8 pound containers store just right.


The clear brass containers you can buy at Walmart.

Magzines: Storage and going to the range. I USE TO:

For going to the range I just put the magazines in those little slots in the range bag or the gun bag. Had some 8 slot holders that worked well for GSSF allowing me to shoot 2 divisions without digging through the range bag.

For storage I found a deep plastic storage container that allowed me stand up the magazines in compartments.



BUT THEN: Four things happened.

1) I got a lot more magazines. At least 10 for every handgun.
2) I started shooting a lot more revolvers using moon clips.
3) I switched from a standard range bag to the a BackPack style (MidwayUSA Range Back Backpack to be specific).
4) I needed to swap the drawers with the holsters and the magazines because the holster were just too tall to fit in a thin drawer.

First the workbench.



A Husky where I was using the bottom drawer for magazines and other stuff. The magazines could stand up in that drawer. But the next drawer up (the long ones) was just not working for the holsters, so I moved the holster down to the taller drawer. Now the magazines wouldn't fit, standing up, in the narrower drawer.

THEN, I found the Plano 3715 storage box. Fits in the BackPack with a little room to spare. It does not have dividers. That allows flexibility in arranging the magazines.



I actually can get 11 Glock 17rd mags in one container by laying the on their side, 2 deep.



And they fit in the BackPack just so. I can get two containers plus a gun bag and still have a little room on the side for the UpLula or an extra box of ammo or two.



And of course they fit perfectly in the Husky storage drawer.





As you can see the moon clips, 22 of them, for my 929 fit perfectly in this case as well. 10/22 and 22/45 mag's fit of course. For speedloaders I just lay them down and can get 8 Comp 3's with .38spl plus 3 HKS in a single container.

For the most used guns, I just load up the magazines when I come back from the range. When I'm ready to go practice of compete just slide them into the BackPack and I'm ready to go.

Brass goes in the plastic Folgers coffee cans, sorted by caliber, nickel or brass, primed or unprimed. (.38 Spl, primed, brass or .41 Mag, Unprimed, nickel, etc.)

Loaded ammo in .50 and .30 cal ammo cans for blasting ammo, MTM type plastic boxes for reloaded specialty ammo or original boxes for factory ammo.

My loading bench isn’t huge so I keep reloading components up on shelves.





Stay safe.

All resides in a "safe room" with vault door with it's own zone for HVAC. The room has a dehumidifier set up. I reload for 30+ calibers and 4 gauges, so organization is key.

Loaded ammo resides in a repurposed cabinet in MTM boxes:



Primers reside in ammo cans and cleaned bulk brass (.223, 9mm, .45ACP, .45Colt, 357SIG, .308) reside in Kitty litter containers:



Smaller quantities of rifle brass are kept in MTM 50 or 100rd boxes and remain together in their "lots" once prepped. Part of the prep process for match brass is segregation by weight, so it's key that they don't intermix. I keep them this way as to track times loaded, annealing etc. Powder and the "other stuff" sit on the shelves of the 21' reloading bench. Boxed bullets are in the lower draw of a rolling cabinet, bulk bullets are on the shelf of another work bench. I keep shotgun hulls in colored recycle bins.
