Test for Hi Tek?

I would air some out for a while and shoot them. While airing them, I'd contact the vendor. Difficult for me to answer as I have loaded quite a few in 9mm and 45 ACP and all were good, no problems...

OK, I’m rather confused now. Acetone brings this coating off, but it sticks well when doing the hammer test. Reheating @400 degrees for 10 minutes does not change the coating at all. No chips, separations, or flakes, and it still comes off with acetone, but sticks when hit with a hammer. I’m beginning to think they aren’t Hi Tek at all. Is there any other coating that would create a strong odor when sealed in a plastic bag, and has the properties above? I tested some in 38 special, and I couldn’t detect any kind of stuck buildup, but the gun did seem a little harder to clean than normal.

The smash test is my go-to for coated bullets.

Here are three different brands of commercial coated bullets, plus one plated. Note the second bullet from the left, how much of the coating has flaked off.

Here is what those flaking bullets do in a new barrel. Very difficult to clean out.
