K6, 640, sp101

I haven't had a Kimber, but I've read good things, and fondled them, and would like to shoot one,

I have finally come to grips (Earth humor, ha ha) with my SP101's and can shoot them reasonably well now.

I've never had a problem with my various J-frames (have carried them off and on for 30 years or so).

The SP101 is sturdier and gentler to shoot with hot ammo. The J-frame is smaller, lighter, easier to carry, better trigger... but maybe not as easy to shoot.

Out of my Sp101s, current J-frame, and LCR, I prefer to carry the LCR. It's light, easy to carry, and has a nice DAO trigger.

I have spent a lot of time with the Kimber K6s and thats where my vote would be. Many hours spent evaluating a very rare S&W 640.

Not necessarily what you were talking about but from the four 3" barrel 357's below, the best triggers are the Kimber and the Colt and maybe with a slight edge for the Kimber.
I shoot the 686 plus better due to the weight. Was thinking of selling the Wiley Clapp GP100 but another trip to the range changed my mind, just a solid shooter.

SP01 vs 640 Pro vs K6s

I started the same exact thread. I'd rank them in order of K6s, 640 Pro, and then the SP101. The Ruger is the bulkiest, has the worst tigger, and is the least refined among the three. It's also the least expensive. You should also look into the Colt King Cobra Carry. As @lincen eluded to, it has an excellent trigger. It's better than the K6s and Ruger LCR trigger IMHO. I recently picked up the 3" King Cobra. I'll post pics later. The King Cobra Carry fits in the same category as the other three you mentioned.

I went with the 640 Pro because it was only $640ish at the time and it came with 3 dot night sights. I plan on buying the 3" DA/SA Kimber K6s next.

I have owned or currently own all the subject revolvers.

Hands down favorite is the K6s. I have a 2" DAO and a 3" DASA. My very petite daughter, whom I have introduced to shooting, LOVES the Kimbers. The trigger pull is her favorite feature. She can drill out the x ring all day long with them. I love 'em too

I put Hogue rubber mono grips on them both. I can shoot full bore 357 with no issues. She likes .38 special. Great guns. I am over 1000 rounds through the 2" and getting close to that on the 3". Buy with confidence.

Just sold my last smith j frame 60 lady smith 38 sp with laser grips .$ 650.00 .
Now my only snub is a SP 101 2.2 " 357 .
Looking hard at the K6 3" DASA

I regularly carry a M-60 Smith with a 3" bbl. and adj. sights. Works very well for me...accuracy is excellent and I find that the 3" tube conceals every bit as well as my wife's 637 Smith with its 1-7/8" bbl. Mine is in .357, of course, but I seldom load it with full house magnums, preferring instead the +p version of a .38 Special...Gold Dots, as the ejector stroke clears them faster and more reliably than the longer .357's. The trigger on the M60 is outstanding in SA, and the DA is good and usable, but for strictly DA work, my K frame Smith's generally have a better pull and let-off. On either, I'd get adj. sights for sure.

The J frame fits my size "L" hands quite well, but only with Hogue Monogrips installed...the Crimson Trace grips work equally well, size wise, and do offer the laser if desired. All that considered, I'd stay with my M60 J frame for its lighter weight for daily carry. As to Kimber, their spotty customer service over the years eliminates them in my view. With three experiences with Smith CS in the last 5 years, I've found them outstanding...no charge, nor repair charges and these were not new guns...one was purchased in '92.

BOTH of the last two S&W revolvers that I have purchased brand new (317 & 642) had to go back to the factory right out of the box - the 317 went back twice and I finally dumped it after they still didn't fix it. So, although their customer service was great, I have given up on them as a company I want to purchase a new gun from.
