Was handed this lovely little sheet about shipping ammunition. I had issues finding exactly how to label things with lots of contradictory info.

Straight from the lovely folks at my Fedex Express location.

In essence, it must have the Limited Quantity Diamond, points up. Then on two sides it must have written: Ammunition, Small Arms Cartridges, and ORM-D in a rectangle.

Hope this helps somebody else too

I just received some from an individual via UPS, had an ORM-D sticker but no description of contents. It arrived no issue.

Exactly the kind of thing i've run across. But according to federal laws, the ORM-D is no longer valid and the limited quantity diamond took its place. So i had just that and my printed shipping label on my package and asked the manager there if it was right. They got me sorted out.

Do it however you choose, but I prefer to stay withing the legal realm!

I've shipped ammo twice with UPS. Both times they added the necessary labels. I typed in the address in their computer and they printed it out and attached everything to the package. No sweat.

I just sent some via UPS..they need the triangle but no description on the box. Just received some from Midway ammo, and I actually used the same box..same small triangle, just added a address label..

I have a UPS account, while doing the label, they ask for contents, I put in 38Super ammunition and it all goes very smoothly..

ive gone to fedex multiple times. ive shipped ammo in just a box gave them the info. They handled proper labelling for me, guess im lucky.

I have also shipped ammo several times using UPS. I did have one problem the first time I did it. I took it to a UPS Store. The manager there told me that they do not accept ammo for shipment and that I would have to go to a UPS service agent to ship it. I then took it to Staples which does service UPS, and they affixed the proper labels and accepted the shipment. I buy most of my ammo online. Everyone I buy from ships it UPS.

By the way I never looked into the U)S Store rejection. It might have been a fluke or maybe the Stores have different policies.

The guy I just got ammo from said he has to take it to the UPS facility, not a UPS store which is just a shipping contractor.

That document is odd because it doesn't agree with FedEx tariffs: https://www.fedex.com/en-us/service-guide/terms/express-ground-samedaycity.html
Express terms:
G. FedEx Express will transport ammunition when packed and labeled in compliance with local, state and federal law, and the Dangerous Goods section of this Service Guide. Ammunition is an explosive and must be shipped separately as dangerous goods. You agree not to ship loaded firearms or firearms with ammunition in the same package.
Ground terms:
G. FedEx Ground will transport small-arms ammunition when packed and labeled in compliance with local, state and federal law, and the Hazardous Materials section of this Service Guide. Ammunition is an explosive and must be shipped separately as hazardous materials. You agree not to ship loaded firearms or firearms with ammunition in the same package.

Further "ORM-D Small Arms Cartridges" is no longer a legal DOT marking: https://www.phmsa.dot.gov/training/hazmat/orm-d-phase-out ......all that is required is the LQ diamond.

I've had a UPS account for twenty years, been an FFL for twelve, ship guns every weeks and ammunition at least twice a month.........never once on UPS.com have I seen a place to list "contents".

Are you actually shipping with UPS (a customer service center/depot) or using a UPS account# at a UPS Store? UPS Stores aren't UPS...they are franchises and as such prohibited by UPS policy from accepting ammunition or firearm shipments:

Getting Your Ammunition Shipment to UPS
Cartridges, small arms may be shipped only through a UPS Scheduled Pickup Account using various UPS pickup services, or through a UPS Customer Center (counters at UPS operational facilities). Note: Cartridges, small arms are not accepted for shipment via UPS Drop Boxes, and may not be tendered to or dropped off at locations of The UPS Store® or any third party retailer or UPS Access Point™ location.

See above.
If your package was lost, stolen, damaged or missing contents....UPS can rightfully deny any claim because you violated their terms of service.

using an UPS account, then taking it to a UPS warehouse, drop off office. No UPS store involved.

I dealt with the local FedEx express hub that ive shipped 50+ packages from in the last few years. They know me. I use an account as well

I took said package out to the FE ground hub and she checked for both the diamond and the ammo, small arms, orm-d written on two sides.

If someone steals the ammo from the box, its on FedEx.

UPS customer center is awesome, they affix the labels for you, couldn’t be easier

There is a place to enter contents and if you are shipping ammunition you tell them it’s ammo and they do the labels
