New S&W Shield Models

I handled a Plus on Saturday. It felt good. The only thing I was not liking was the smaller opening between the front of the trigger and the trigger guard. Seemed to me like the new style trigger has reduced the opening a little. It might be ok, just different than what I have been used to.
Do you think this would be an issue with gloves on ?

If S&W would have made a reversible mag catch(like on M&P) a Shield would be my perfect carry gun.

Nice...if you don't mind, did you have to take a bath on your 2.0? At the gunshow I went to on Saturday I saw guy sell his to a dealer for $200. (Zoo full of crazy people with ammo blinders only) Granted it was a dealer but still...

So I had understood that the Hellcat & the Sig 365's already came with night sights.
The Plus is said to have them offered...eventually but not yet & cost have not been released on those. Only thing they have release is the standard sights with & without a safety. I saw them for as low as $499.

Night sights, optic plate & "Performance" editions are forthcoming...no idea on cost yet though.

I fondled a Plus on Thursday with & without safety. My Shield 1.0 went up for sale this afternoon. The only thing I'm concerned about is...the market is suddenly flooded with 1.0 & 2.0's...
Sold mine today for $400 with box & 3 magazines. I'm going shopping...

Mine came in today. I filled out the 4473 and can pick them up Friday, but had a chance to check them out. I ordered the 3.1 inch model and the 4 inch Performance Center model to replace the 3.1 inch model I just sold as well as the 4 inch Performance Center one I still own, but have up for sale. S&W knocked it out of the park with these. The triggers are fantastic. They're crisp with a clean break and reset. I'd guess the trigger weight is about 5 pounds, so unless you order one with a 10 pound trigger pull you can put those concerns to rest. The size difference between my current Shields and these is negligible, and if I didn't tell you there was a difference you probably wouldn't notice it. I should have a chance to shoot it Friday after work. I was at the range Saturday with my current 4 inch Performance Center Shield and it's a gem. I don't see why these will be different.

Watched a video where they swapped slides between a shield 2 performance center and a shield plus. No problems with either pistol after the grip swap. If true, then S&W saved a ton of money by not having to retool slide manufacture and having to focus R&D only on magazines and plastics. Hopefully prices on these come down soon enough as the shield plus would be my preferred upgrade as I've been holding out ever since the sig p365 came out.

I have a pair of Shield 45s and have been pleased with them, if I was in search of a 9mm CC handgun I would definitely look at all the different M&Ps, my only problem with M&Ps is the mag prices for 40s&w and 45acp are usually 1/2 more than 9mm when on sale, the last 45acp I purchased was 20$ea,

I got my Plus today. It needs some breaking in. Controls are stiffer than the ones in my 1.0, and that only has about 500 rounds through it. Can’t drop the slide lock with my thumb at all like I can on the 1.0 and the safety isn’t as smooth to operate and has a bit of a sharpness to it. It feels great in the hand but not all that different from my 1.0 with Talon grips. I do like the extra capacity. I’m hoping it breaks in nicely.

I was in Scheels today, and they had a couple in stock. After fondling one... I'm in love.
I've been considering a couple different options for a new CC piece, but not any more. The biggest factor is I don't have to spend another $50-$100 on a new holster. Now to locate one without the safety.

I had a chance to shoot mine Saturday. I put about 150 rounds through each, the 3.1 inch model and the 4.0 inch Performance Center one. 100 rounds were my reloads and another 50 were split between 124 grain HST and HST +P. There were no malfunctions and they shot great, on par with my current and former Shields. We were shooting at clay pigeons from 25 yards out and were hitting them regularly, so I'm more than happy with the accuracy. The only negative, and it's not a big deal is the new trigger slightly irritates my finger after a while, given that it has the trigger safety. It's not as bad as Glock triggers as the safety is flush with the trigger where Glock's protrudes, but it's not as comfortable for me as their previous trigger. These have become my go to carry guns, the 4 inch model when my pockets are deep enough to conceal it well and the 3.1 inch when I need something more concealable. I had pretty high expectations for these guns and they didn't disappoint.

Finally found one in my local gun shop so I could handle it and compare and contrast to the P365 that I currently carry.

Yeah... Not going to downgrade to the Shield Plus...

Yes, the trigger is great. About half a pound less than the P365. But, it's a bigger gun overall and is more in line with the Glock G43X size-wise. The controls were nearly unworkable and the safety was horribly configured. Literally could not deactivate the safety without changing grip and really trying. Could not release the slide using the controls. Would not carry this pistol without substantial improvement in the controls.

But, it felt great in the hand and I'm sure it's a fine shooter, but I saw no reason to get one over a P365 or Hellcat.

Store wanted $509 and said they have sold a couple. They had the new Ruger Max-9 come in and sold all they had in a day, so couldn't take a look at it.

@TomJ -- You kind of stink at helping me save money. :neener:

Seriously, thanks for the range report. As soon as I locate spare magazines for sale, I'll be grabbing a Shield Plus.

I agree regarding the safety, which is why mine don't have them. I wasn't able to see one with a safety, but they appear to be pretty small and made me question whether I could work it quickly if necessary. I believe the slide stop is just that, and not a slide release. Their instruction manual tells you to pull the slide back to chamber a round and doesn't mention using the slide stop to do so.

The stiffness of the safety was a common complaint with the orginal but most (all?) said it became right after some use.

MY 1.0 did as well. After using about 50 times on/off, it settled into a nice useable firm feel and has remained the same ever since. My Buckmark was the same way.

I had and carried the original Shield with manual safety for the past 5 years or so. One of the nits was the takedown procedure. That stupid mag disconnect that you had to reposition before you took the slide off just bugged me. That and I've never been a fan of the "safety" trigger. I have had them hang up on me a time or two. Couldn't pull the trigger. While they are I think great value propositions, I'm just happier with the 365 now.

what mag disconnect? There isn’t one in this gun. Are you referring to the little lever inside the manual says to lower to allow the slide to come off? That’s not that big a deal but you don’t have to use it. You can just pull the trigger like on a Glock to take it down.

Agreed.

When I carried my Shield which seems long ago, I never used the sear lever, didn't see the point when I can put eyes on an empty magazine well and chamber and pull the trigger to takedown.

I'm not ordinarily one to run out and buy the latest-greatest, but I picked up a Shield+ today. Given the track record of the Shield generally, I didn't figure I could go too far wrong. It will likely be a couple of weeks before I can get her to the range, but I'll report back when I have done so.

Sorry I use the wrong terminology. It's the "Sear Deactivation Lever"

A mag disconnect disables the weapon so it can't fire if the magazine is not in the gun. That's the sear release lever, which gives you the option of not having to pull the trigger to field strip, which some people (including myself) see as a design flaw, one that Glock should have changed since the Glock was first introduced. If you don't want to use it, you can just pull the trigger like you would a Glock.

I carried a Shield before I carried a P365. I actually think the P365 is almost a hair too small for ideal size for me. I can squeeze my fingers into a full grip on it, but it was a smidge easier on the Shield. The P365XL feels perfect to me, and I suspect the Shield Plus 4" would feel good in the same way. The only other gun that I've had that felt as good as the P365XL was the Kahr K9 to me. That thing just melted into my hand.
