I just ordered a Heritage Barkeep, which is basically a Rough Rider single-action revolver with a 2" barrel and no onboard ejector rod. Right now it's on its way to my FFL.

So when I look at my receipt, it appears that I ordered one with a 3" barrel, something that I didn't even know existed. It's not anywhere on the Heritage website, and searching the UPC code brings up a lot of out-of-stock retail listings that either have no pictures or have pictures of the 2" barrel model, even though they say 3" in their specs.

All the online reviews say 2" barrel. I'm wondering what I'm going to get. Does anybody know anything about this ghost model with a 3" barrel? I tried calling Heritage today, but after 45 minutes on hold I gave up. They do have nice guitar music, though.

I was under the impression that the Barkeep was a 3” barreled revolver, not a 2”.

Well I’ll be...
From their website:
“With a two-inch barrel configuration, this compact carry revolver checks all the boxes for form and function.”

Whichever one you get, I am sure it is the only one they make be it a 2 or 3 inch and there is some miscommunication going on.

I've been casually watching the conversations take in 2 and 3 inch for a while.

I believe that the one you show in the link is in fact what HRR calls a 2 inch.

They note the "2 inch" as: 2.68"

Here: Vance shows a 3 inch that they have in stock.

And here, is HRR's own "2 inch" pictured:

put a 9 shot cylinder with a 3” (no ejector rod) or 3 1/2” (ejector rod but plowhandle, not birdshead grip as is now sold) and i’m in.

I’ll take a birdshead-gripped, 3.5” ejector-rod equipped one as well .

Stay safe.
Thanks -- still waiting to see how I like the 3". It arrived at my FFL a few days ago, but NY's pistol-permit paperwork is all backed up, and it'll be at last a couple of weeks before I'll be able to get my hands on it. Did I mention how much NY sucks for handgun purchases?

It seems worse than in Ca... if that’s possible.

Stay safe.

... With a two-inch barrel configuration, ...
Measures
Weight: 26.00
Barrel Length: 2.68"
Overall Length: 7.95"

It's about 2 2/3" barrel length. Can't call it a 3 inch barrel, or two inch.

The next step up is 3.5" (with bird's head grip rather than standard type):

Measures
Weight: 28 oz
Barrel Length: 3.5"
Overall Length: 8.78"

I am happy with my 6.5" barrel default model Heritage Rough Rider. Complements my .22 s,l.,r Marlin leveraction and my .22 wmr Taurus pump carbine. Not sure I would want to go to a much shorter barrel. But the bird's head with 3.5" barrel (call it a 3" or 4"?) is cute.

We got to look at one on Saturday. My wife wants one. I told her about the poking rod and she thought that was just genius. I may have to break the selling mode rules and get it for her. It does feel nice in the hand with the longer barrel.

It's county-by-county here in NY. My county used to be great -- the process to add a new pistol to your permit was walk-in-walk-out. If you bought it from a store near the Sheriff's office complex, you could pick out your gun, pay for it, do the paperwork, and take the gun home all within a few hours. The judges who are supposed to sign the "amendments" used to let the Sheriff's people use a rubber-stamp of their signature to expedite this meaningless formality. Then somebody abused the privilege -- used the rubber stamp to issue actual permits, rather than just amend existing ones, and got caught. No more rubber-stamp. Then COVID hit, and now it's all done by mail, judges signatures and all. It takes weeks.

Back when Colt reintroduced the Sheriffs SAA models in 3” and 4” barrels I got the 3” model and then sent it to the Colt Custom Shop to be rebarreled to 2”. This gun is at the top of he list of stupidest things I ever got rid of. I would want the 2” version of the Heritage as it’s more of a snubnose to me.

Watching "Taxidriver" handgun purchase in NYC looks pretty easy; the bootlegger will show up at your door with a sample case,no paperwork required.
The usual NYC news story is 25,000 legal handguns for a population of eight million Below the cut off line (sometimes printed) NYPD and/or ATF estimate 2,000,000 unregistered handguns on the NYC streets.

In Ohio, face to face sales are legal between individuals, and buying a firearm of any kind at the dealer takes minutes.
My college room mate was moving to Rochester, NY, to attend RIT. His father, a Sherman crewman who had three tanks blown out from under him, wanted him to have the nice Lugar rig he brought home.
My friend spoke to the sheriff there, and they told him, unequivocally, that no way we're they issuing a permit, and he better not be caught.

I have seen the German pistol spelled “Lugar” many times on this forum. I always thought it was “Luger”. Which is it?

The pistol is named for its inventor, Georg Johann Luger (March 6, 1849 – December 22, 1923). He was Austrian, not German. Germany adopted his pistol - so did the Swiss and several other countries.
