Fighting Back

We have to support organizations that do challenge Anti legislation, but we must become personally involved ourselves if we're truly "fighting back". We provide a lot of guidance in Activism on how to make your voice more important to aid in the struggle.

A group of friends who are all gun owners were over Friday night and we were talking about HR 8 and HR1446 and the potential for passage in the Senate and the place the filibuster has in that potential. I ended up emailing example letters, links for Congresscritter email addresses, where to find their district offices and phone numbers for same, how to make appointments to speak with the staff at the local office of the Congresscritter and even how to make an appointment with the Congresscritter. I also pointed out that state 2A organizations are important in making sure elected officials understand our positions so I provided our state pro 2A group's website so they could join. I pointed out that some states are more at the forefront of the struggle than others so I gave them the links to VCDL in Virginia as one of those "battle ground" states. We brought up the point that there are some Democrats in red states and purple states that need encouragement to stay with their pro 2A citizens and how a letter to them saying "Friends and family in ... are concerned that you'll take the party stance on firearms regulations instead of serving your constituency. As a frequent visitor to ... I too hope that you respect my family and our opposition to so-called "gun control" legislation that has no basis in the CDC, NSF, DOJ studies on reducing murders".

Sending money to someone else is just the first step to really fighting back and being heard.

Agreed! Many ways to fight back. Memberships where needed, donate $$$ when you can afford it to 2A causes, get those on the fence into a discussion about the positive effects of 2A, take people to the range and teach them about responsible gun ownership, call and actually send a letter to your representative about upcoming leslation and why you are for or against its passage. This is a good starting list.

I agree with @hso that personal advocacy is important when it comes to pending legislation. Grass roots advocacy can be very influential. We should all be writing our federal and state senators and representatives to let them know where we stand and why. There is an old adage; “The silent majority gets what it asks for.” Doing nothing begets nothing.

I have been a life member of the NRA for about 30 years. I have three adult children and just purchased five year memberships for each of them. They seem to be happy about the gift.

Excellent idea and I hope many more follow that path as well as taking the sound advice given by hso. Hokkmike, I agree and can only say that the way to fight that is from within the organization. Membership gives one the opportunity to have a stronger voice.

My nephews, who are part of my "deer camp" bought one of my other nephews, who is a bleeding heart pain in the butt arrogant liberal, a NRA membership. At one of our reunions I served waffles made on a NRA waffle iron.
I've gone from annual through life, endowment, patron and benefactor and have bought my kids memberships until they were 21.

Well done Case....

I'm a life member of the NRA, GOA and TSRA.

I ought to go on ahead and get lifetime memberships for ms gamboolgal and our daughter.

gamboolman....

How abot this, we, the NRA and me, have had some serious face to face personal differences, for some very definite reasons, but I have never doubted or failed to appreciate the NRA’s support of my rights and their being one of the stead fast supporter of those rights. In this fight you best get your big boy pants on and keep your eye on the real finish line, fight about the BS, if you are still around to fight later.

BRAVO!!
And also, the rest of your post:thumbup:. IF ONLY 100 HUNDRED members from here would call Senator''X'' on the same day, same issue, WOW would that be an impact?

YES

As I have said in many posts before, that phone receiver is SUCH a heavy lift...:scrutiny:

ACTIVISM implies the imperative of...ACTIVITY. DO SOMETHING FRIENDS ! GOD HELP US not from the opposition, but, from OURSELVES! !

Been a life member since 1967. Benefactor for over 20 years. Recently renewed my Golden Eagle membership. The NRA still is on my side of the battle. I write my elected folks frequently. We are all in this together.

The NRA is basically being ignored in the current gun debate. And I say this as a Life Member going back to the early 1970's. It's lost its clout.

Tell me who else speaks up for our side on a national level? All of the alternate gun rights organizations that are talked about on this forum I have never heard of. I don’t like the bureaucracy of any large organization. I don’t like the bureaucracy on this forum. But I don’t have much choice. You take the bad with the good in real life.

That, indeed, is the problem. As gun owners, we are perfectly justified in feeling bitter about what the NRA (that is, the leadership) has done to itself.

I get emails daily from the NRA asking for money. I don't hear anything about what it's doing substantively to further gun rights. Right now, it's totally preoccupied with its own self-preservation.

I’m not a defender of the NRA or the republican party but your arguments against either entity do not take in the big picture. And the big picture is what we have ruling our country in Washington DC right now.
Keep helping the left tear down what’s left of this republic and see where all the liberal causes that you love go away.

SAF and GOA are the other two national level organizations. SAF (and their CCRKBA sister organization) do real pro 2A work that has had real benefit to the 2A preservation. You can also support the NRA-ILA.
I have never seen an advertisement from one of those organizations that you mention. That’s because they don’t spend money, which they probably don’t have, on advertising. It is myopic to believe that it doesn’t take millions of dollars to do what an organization like the NRA does. Sitting at our keyboards and bitching about all the negative news we hear only helps the left continue the march towards new gun laws.

A simple search (upper right corner) at THR would show recent and frequent threads on GOA and SAF and their work. Here's the latest in Activism Discussion https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/ranking-of-national-rkba-organizations.885900/ and a recent General https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/its-time-stop-stalling-join-now.885290/ . They might be interesting to read and see what all the organizations are that are effectively fighting for RKBA.
