Powder/Primer Companies

My parents and grand parents told me how hard it was to get ammunition during World War II and even when they could find ammunition how poor the quality was. I have always tried to keep what I need but this time the primer shortage slipped up on me. Every month that goes buy without supplies the reloaders will get madder and madder. Not much respect for CCI, Federal and Winchester. I really miss Remington primers and maybe Remington getting back into production will help.
This is nothing new. The primer shortage has been explained over and over again. Do a little research, watch the video which runs with all of the explanations. Remington is back online and all of their new primer production is going to loaded ammunition. We saw all of this before, the last time following Sandy Hook. Heck, I remember the great primer shortage and scare during the early / mid 90s. The entire ammunition and reloading component chain is a fragile chain. There is no money in making or building new factories simply to meet a temporary shortage. I am sorry you have no primers and if you were anywhere near me in the Cleveland, Ohio area I would give you some primers. Loaded ammunition is showing up from reputable retailers at reasonable prices. It's catch as catch can. Likewise powder, brass and bullets catch as catch can. Watch the video and be patient. The guys making the stuff did not create the shortage.

WWII led to rationing on the Homefront. My father had all the ammunition he could carry and then some.

So tired of hearing about primers!

can we talk about, say, reloading in a camp sight, best steak for reloaders, best beer after reloading, best reloader in the world.... something other than the shortage of primers.

Sorry to post on your thread :(
reloading at a campsite, been there, done that with a Lee hand loader. Best steak for reloaders, dry aged Kansas City cut. best beer after loading, a nice cold honey kolsch. best reloader in the world, the late, great RCModel.
Now, for a change of pace, let's all cry about the shortage of projectiles!

Ditto for the Lee. Best steak is grilled cauliflower. I quit drinking decades ago so I’m going with my old favorite, HeffeWeiss Kystall. And the late, great RCModel is the patron Saint of reloaders. Now let’s cry over the shortage of guts, brains and backbone in this once great country.

I’m tired of crying! moving to florida

Not unless the washer and dryer are out there too........................

Laugh if you want, but I have seen this. Not going to say where. A yard full of cars too.

Powder and primer companies?

Best I can tell they are running full tilt. AND the majority of it is going to making ammunition, not being sold as reloading components.

So we have to sit and wait, and be patient.

I blame certain people/entity's for the shortage, but I don't blame the manufacture's.

But it will come back in time. How much time I don't know. But it will come back.

Yeah, but then that wouldn't be this forum...... It'd be the beer and steak eaters forum

I do know as I’m in the NC pork producing belt. Smithfield Farms!
And Food Lion food stores!
And the same one that generously gave us the 2020 COVID-19.
Not just Smithfield and Kretschmar but about 30 formerly American family labels.

Nope cus I now cast all I use!
However I will cry about the shortage of lead and the shortage of old style clip on ww due to being phased out for Zinc!

A little advice: for the sake of your own sanity, DO NOT research who owns the majority of America’s pork production and processing. You don’t want to know.
Cargill Corporation: Con Agra, Tyson Foods, Costco, Sweetbran, ethanol, biodiesel, ethyl alcohol, sorbitol sweeteners, soy/corn oil, salad dressings, pet foods, corn syrup for Pepsi/Frito Lay.... etcetera, etcetera.

Business that make knee jerk decisions based on temporary market conditions generally don’t last a long time. Like many of the AR lower places that died out after the last panic and there relatively small equipment investments were still too much burden for the demand of the subsequently saturated market.

My Grandfather told a story that depicts why the large business don’t dump a lot of resources due to those shortsighted. There was a young bull and an old bull on a hilltop over looking a herd. The young bull comes running up and says, “hey, hey, I’ve got an idea. How about we run down there and breed one of those heifers?” The old bull finishes his mouthful of grass and replies, “Why don’t we just walk down there and breed all of them?”

Point being with little to no competition the motivation to outpace temporary surges in production, just isn’t there.

I’m sure the companies that make primers are running at or near full production capabilities under normal consumption levels. Get into panic buying and there is no way they can keep up.

Before retiring, I worked for one of the top tissue manufacturers. Our tissue machines would run 24/7 making 200” wide tissue at 5000 ft/min. That is impressive to see something as fragile as tissue running at almost a mile per minute in speed.

There is little extra capacity for covering panic buying. Yes, facial tissue or towel production could be changed to toilet paper but then there would be shortages in facial tissue or paper towel inventories.

So, do you want to blow your nose, dry your hands or...

Unfortunately, it is a bit late these days to be prepared for another panic buying episode. Whinning about it is not going to accomplish anything.

Maybe it is time to place efforts in other areas to protect our firearm hobby while waiting for the good buying times to return.

I’ve been buying brass. Prices for less than popular cartridges are depressed.

Vista Outdoors owns Remington ammo, Alliant Powder, Speer, Hevi shot, Federal ammo and RBCS. And they admit most of their primers are going to Federal to make ammo. This was before they bought Remington ammo.
