Hello,
I recently purchased what I believe to be a M1888 Mk.1 bayonet made in 1898. Based on the research I did, it seems like it is the real deal. Here's what I know (at least think I know):

The bayonet goes to a mark 1 Enfield rifle
The stamped 98 indicates it was made in 1898
It is stamped with a royal crown
It has an X stamp that shows it has passed a bend test.

What I don't know:
Not sure what the V.R. stamp indicates
Not sure what the 1 stamp indicates
Note sure what the 5BE indicates
Note sure what the 503 number represents

If anyone has any additional information on this bayonet, please teach me. I'll attach pictures to showcase the condition and the marking I have mentioned above. Thanks

As long as we're passing on getting stuck with bayonets, I'll take a pass on that one too.

Both that you just posted are way cool.

Thank you. Stay tuned for the third one I bought as well. Just didn’t have the time today totype out the next one.

I'm not an expert, but I'd guess that V.R. stands for Victoria Regina, or Queen Victoria.
The 1 with 98 may be January 1898.
5BE is an inspector's mark and 503 may be the serial of it's rifle.
Finally, EFD means it was made at Enfield.

Wow, thank you very much for the knowledge and resource. Maybe it’s just because google hates stuff like this that I didn’t find the website you linked. Regardless, I’ll be sure to use it.
