Dan Wesson pistol pack in 22LR

you could do a complete custom volquartzen Ruger MK pistol for that kind of money and have money left over.

you could do the smart thing and buy a cougar frame contender to make all of your contender barrels happier with the better trigger that the older frames had

and then there is just absolute cool with a Camp Perry Colt or a S&W perfected target single.

Find a specific shooting sport to enter and then buy for that.

The most accurate handgun I've played with was an old Super 14 Contender in 7mm TCU for the Masters years ago. That thing would shoot three touching while fireforming brass at 100 and about 1 5/8" at 200. I always enjoyed that handgun. It wore a 4x recoil proof that iirc TC sold and had a very light touch trigger after the local gunsmith worked it over.

The year before I used one in 30-30 and the neatest thing about it was watching the scope turn orange while shooting at dusk when stopping at the range after work before heading home. Then watching the tall grass in front of the shooting bench still swaying back and forth from the blast of all the unburnt powder. What wasn't cool was watching the adjusting turrets fly off the Simmons scope the night before heading out for the Masters that year (1987). Luckily, I had a spare. But it performed no where near as well as the 7mm TCU did.

Heresy not hearsay.

Find a good S&W Model 17 (or earlier).

Those 17s are super nice.
@armoredfarmer
Love single 6s. I have one that's had an absolute truckload of ammo through it.

@SW351C
I have thought about having a revolver massaged by those builders, but usually come back to "for close to the same money I could get a freedom arms .22"
@Frulk
If those 617s were blued I'd jump on one. And if the ruger gp100s in .22 had a full lug I'd jump on those. I'm just wildly picky I guess...

There are plenty of options to explore so do not be to quick to pull the trigger yet. I have the 617 , I bought it as an understudy for my 686+ that I carry. It is accurate in single action but in double action the heavy trigger pull makes it near impossible to hit your target. In single action you can ring plates at a 100 yards all day. I love this gun because it fits in the holster I carry my 686+ and allows me to practice my draw and shoot in double action. After 100 rounds I feel my forearm burning, but when I change to my 686 the DA trigger is bout 6 pounds less and feels buttery smooth.

I also bought the Smith and Wesson 41 a couple of months ago and was quite disappointed with the gun. You would think that since it is a Performance Center handgun that it should work flawlessly....WROOOONNGG! Had to send it back to them it would not feed a variety of ammo and will not cycle my wolf match ammo. After six loooooong weeks I got it back but still won't work with wolf target ammo, as you stated standard ammo is fine and I went through 200 rounds easily shooting bulk, a variety of cci standard and high velocity rounds as well as Aguila. Trigger is pretty awesome, a couple of times the gun went off before I was finished aiming.

You could consider a black mamba in 22 also pretty wicked or a 22lr rifle that is beating the Anschutz rifle called the vudoo the KRG chases, pretty wicked, my favorite would be a Kimber Black Ice Rapide in 10mm. A 52C Winchester is a rifle everyone should own.

Barrels and forearms interchange. Pistol grips and stocks dont. The reason your trigger isn’t great is that the g2 uses an encore type trigger thats just not as smooth as the cougar frames. The cougar frames have adjustable triggers, but I haven’t touched either of mine because they are nice and crisp, a slight bit heavier than I would like but I hunt with them so I prefer to leave them alone and be super reliable.

Searching through my rolodex mind to try to remember those model numbers, iirc they're all centerfires correct? Not a big fan of centerfire revolvers (hearsay I know)
Just say you want a .22 rimfire, then. Every other modern handgun made that isn't a .17 or .22 rimfire is going to be a centerfire, which is overwhelmingly the majority of all handguns made.

If you want a fine rimfire revolver, search for a Model 48. It's the K-22 Masterpiece Magnum. .22MRF, and you could get a .22LR cylinder for it. Very accurate. Made from 1959-1986. Reintroduced in 2010 as part of S&W Classic Series. Here's my M48-4, 1980 model

Not into centerfire revolvers, tbh. Have had way too many issues with them.
What kind of issues? They're no more or no less reliable than rimfires, the firing mechanisms use the same design. Centerfire ammo typically has less issue with misfires than rimfire ammo does, and you can reload them..

Cracked forcing cones and timing issues. I have really terrible luck with revolvers. Rimfire revolvers I've never had any issue with, however. All factory ammo, never swung the cylinders shut, never mistreated them.

+1 on the M617. I'll be putting mine through its paces tomorrow.

I will be visiting Collectors, in person, during the next day or two, to take a closer look at a few things. It is like a museum, but with price tags on everything.

That sounds fantastic, I'd love to go to a place like that with a pile of cash.

You'd need a pretty big pile if you made a purchase there, but they do have truly collectable firearms, and are well-stocked as of two weeks ago including a couple of M17s IIRC.

That was my first thought as soon as the OP talked about a Model 617. I would take a vintage Model 17 over a brand new Model 617 any day of the week. He also mentioned a Model 34 Kit Gun though as fine as a little .22 as it is, it's not a Model 17 (nor was it ever meant to be).

If I had the budget I'd be torn between a S&W .22 Revolver and a Ruger Single Six, but - then with your buget you could likely get both. I've never handled the single six, but the trigger on my one S&W revovler, makes every other trigger I've pulled seem inadequate. I love and hate my Model 10 for that.

Pretty sure I'm going to go with the spooky 1911 build. Thanks for all the help gents. Now to learn about suppressors hahaha

Get on the waiting list for a .22 LR suppressor. Order a Browning Buckmark and upgrade the trigger and add a Tacticle Solutions leight weight threaded barrel. Order a quality red dot. Buy more precious metal.
