I know people reload shotgun shot all the time but I've heard of anyone reloading shotgun slugs. Has anyone done this? How'd it go?

I was thinking that reloading for 20 gauge could make some pretty sweet sabot rounds for hunting, MAYBE even cheaper than they sell for commercially.

I load the lee 1oz slugs for 12ga. If I recall they are only costing me about .18 cents each. Fun to shoot, pretty accurate through my smooth bore barrel. If you like to shoot slugs or hunt with them it a handy thing to be able to do

Just grabbed myself a Panzer Arms AR-12 Pro and have been entertaining this same idea. Love shooting this gun with 1oz slugs, but at 1.50-2$ a shot. it adds up pretty fast. Actually ordered some 1 oz. and 1-1/4 oz slugs to try. Have decided on a wad or powder yet. So far just a thought. Watching Youtube videos nightly.

I load the Lee 1oz slugs as well. I found a cheap MEC sizemaster at a pawn shop a few years ago and bought molds before the panic. I've had decent accuracy from my slug loads out to 25 yards. Casting and loading slugs sure beats what they are selling for now.

I have at least four slug moulds, 12 and 20 Lyman sabot style, Lee 7/8 oz key drive 12, and the Lyman Foster standard. The first two work quite well, the Lee o.k. and the Foster sucks eggs. After hundreds of shots with this conglomeration, I use Remington Aerotips for deer but may have to do more development work with the Sabot 20 if ammo doesn't show up by 2024 when I'll run out of the Remingtons. You might join Slug Shooters and pick up some good info. ASSA I think is their abbreviation. Good luck and strong shoulders.

Go on YouTube and look up Bubba Roundtree Outdoors. Then go to Buckshot Reloading Procedures 101. Most of his stuff is for 12-ga, but he does have a few videos on 20-ga as well. Videos on smelting lead and casting slugs. It’ll give you an idea about the process. He has a web page as well.

Ballistic Products is one of the main suppliers for shotshell reloading and has electronic manuals for sale. They are built around their products (wads, cards, etc.), but buckshot and slugs require a pretty steep learning curve, and you’re best off following a loading manual to the letter.

Lyman Shotgun Reloading Manual 5th Edition has good info as well.

It's done. Lee sells molds for slugs and so do others. There is data on Alliant's website, BPI and others. also in Lee Reloading manual.
Follow the recipe.

I’ve dabbled in it. Picked up a Browning A Bolt in 12 gauge with a slug barrel last year. I’ve been loading 1oz lee key drive slugs, don’t even need a press. I shoot Remington gun club shells for skeet shooting, and the shells fire formed in my skeet gun fit in my slug gun without sizing. Then wads, powder, primer, and a few shot cards, and a roll crimp tool in the drill press. I load them to 1100fps, this makes a really fun plinking load. Something about shooting a big slow hunk of lead at steel is satisfying. Lee has some load data On their website for some warmer loads. One of these ruined my last range trip, my first shot was just a little low, cut the 2x4 holding up my steel plate clean in half.

That simplifies slug loading. About 10 years too late for my needs, but I'll jot it down for future reference. Is that a AA-CF or AA-HS hull it's supposed to go into? I have both, but as dense as Blue dot is, 44 gr. in an AA-HS hull seems a stretch.
