The Blackest Black Rifle?

Is the mighty FAL the world's blackest "black rifle"?? I dunno, but this one sure can SHOOT!! I picked it up recently off Gunbroker from a guy that builds these from Steyr STG-58 parts kits and DSA SA-58 receivers.

Other pics of black rifles welcome here. :D
What a beauty! On my list of rifles to buy. Good luck with it!

My uncle has a Np3 coated custom something or other DSA-SA58 that he ordered like 15 years ago, even back then he had to wait almost a year to get it and paid $3K. It is an impressive piece of engineering, I can see very well how Mr. Browning and Mr. Saive were colleagues or peers or whatever. It feels rugged enough to survive a nuclear blast.... I just never warmed up to them. Top heavy, weird balance, never liked the SAW style grip, rips brass to ribbons, etc...

But I see why people love em. Very capable weapon. I always think of red sand, African warlord/despot with an army of FAL weilding fighting forces....

Isn’t the FAL called “The right arm of the free world” or something cool like that? That’s one nice piece of machinery there!

Stay safe.

I've heard FALs referred to by that name before but never thought of them as "The Blackest Black Rifle". I like it. I've always liked the way they shoot, especially the 7.62 cartridge and wanted one for a long time. These days, I've got other priorities though. More for the rest of you!

My only experience up close seeing armed forces with FALs was in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico about 15 years ago. I boarded a plane for a flight back to Los Angeles and for some reason it got routed away from the terminal and parked about 1/4 mile away. We all were ordered to leave our carryons in place and get off the plane, so we went down the portable stair setup to a waiting bus. To board the bus they had us walk between two rows of some haphazardly-uniformed teenaged soldiers armed with FALs; fingers on triggers, muzzle-sweeping us, etc. It was NOT a comfortable feeling at all.

For whatever reasons still unknown we were driven back to the terminal. We were told not to leave the gate area so we waited there for about an hour and a half. Ultimately the plane came back over and we reboarded. After that escapade the flight was rather uneventful.

I assumed there was a load of dope on the plane somewhere they were looking for, but that’s just a guess.

Stay safe.

I got my DSA medium contour when they first came out, love it. I always wanted one of the Belgian imports back in the early 80's they were out of my price range at the time ($1800.00+/-).
"The right arm of the free world" (over 90 countries had adopted it). Another quote for it I like is "Fal's for the classes, AK's for the masses"

Thats Mexico for sure ! I was pulled out of a line returning from a month long with my wife in Jan 2020 and had my phone "scanned" by some brief case sized device while my wife , who speaks Spanish, was shuffle away to the plane. I have limited Spanish ability but wondered how they would react to the thousands of Gun pictures and sensitive phone #s on my phone so I pulled out my Military ID , which is valid forever as a retiree and has CWO2 as rank on it and demanded a supervisor who spoke English . Like a parting of the waters I was hustled to the plane and the red light on the scanning device was turned off and stopped before finishing !
BTW I have two FNFALs one built on a Steyr 58 kit with an Imbel reciever and the other an Austrailian English pattern with an Imbel Metric receiver , both use Metric mags but the Aussie will take English mags, They were built by Arizona Response Systems years ago and the Steyr is by far the most accurate, a 2MOA rifle with an ACOG 4x .

Black Rifles are always nice to keep around, do some blasting with.

One of my favorites was the Galil AR that I had, wish I still had it.

This is a stock photo as I don't have any pics of mine. Probably one of the best battle rifles ever made.

... Looking for one of these
Bought on Gunbroker. The guy's screen name there is L2rover. But I just checked and he doesn't have any other auctions running now. If you're on GB you can contact him there with that screen name.

The Rhodesians cut them off.

Yeah, well, apparently, the South Africans had plenty of them and shipped sanitized (no markings) versions to the Rhodesians, so there must be a more than a few floating around Africa. Ian over at Forgotten Weapons did a pretty good briefing on the Rhodesian version.
