Taurus Tracker 45 Colt

Took the Taurus out and shot it today. Used 200 grain lead rounds, and it’s extremely accurate. Aluminum cans at 25 yards are no problem. Picked up some unused clays, and they were easy to hit at 25 yards.

One strange thing was that the 225 Hornady FTX loads wouldn’t function in the Taurus. They stuck out in front of the cylinder, and caused it to bind. I guess it’s lead only for this one.

Probably the OAL of the FTX .. if you remove the red polymer insert .. they may work

I know I've bashed some Taurus revolvers but never the big frame or Trackers. As a matter of fact my 6 1 / " Tracker 17 HMR is the only revolver I've ever gotten a true sub 2MOA at 100 yards and that was with all seven chambers. Normally, 2-3" for five. If a mouse passes gas next door the group ions up.
I got off track. Good gun.

Definitely was the polymer tip that stopped things up. I’ve got a bunch of the 225’s for my 450 Bushmaster, and was hoping they’d work in the Taurus. I loaded up some Ruger only loads using the FTX for my Blackhawk and Redhawk, and they’ll blow a gallon jug of water to pieces!

I had one and after dry firing it a bunch it had a very good trigger.
Sold it to fund some other project. One of few guns I wish I had kept. I did not care for the porting and it had a funky key lock in the back of the hammer.

Occasionally I search for another but mostly find the ugly Judge as it has the same model number.

I’ve looked online, and can’t find another Taurus 45 Colt Tracker revolver for sale, except for one sold several years ago. Are these kinda rare? That could be good or bad.

According to my Hornady load book, you have to trim the cases back to 1.215 due to the longer ogive.

So far, I’ve only loaded the FTX with the Hodgdon Ruger only load data. Hodgdon had no trim instructions, and they fit with room to spare in the Ruger cylinders. The Taurus cylinder is much shorter though. I’ve got a good supply of powder coated lead bullets that I’ll use for the Taurus. Thanks for the info!

You're welcome. I figured the Rugers had longer throats by reading your post. Not to get off topic, how's that 225 shoot in your Bushmaster? I shoot the 250s, but have yet to load for it. They give me 2 boxes when I bought the rifle

40 grains Lil Gun, 225 FTX, Hornady brass, and CCI 450 primer give me 2350 FPS from my 16” 450 AR, and moa or better if I do my part. My 20” Mossberg bolt gun does one ragged hole and 2460 FPS with the same load.

I’ve got a few boxes of Hornady 245 grain interlock that I’m gonna develop a load for the Mossberg soon. The 225 FTX is made for 45 Colt speeds, and I don’t trust them on game. They’re extremely accurate though. Also put a crimp on my bullets using a Lee factory crimp die.

I have owned one exactly like yours ... and the
2 inch model & the 2 in barreled titanium model

Nope not as stout as a Ruger .... but no +P needed

I now own a 44mag Tracker like yours

I've got a possible line on one of those. It strikes me as probably a much better thing to be running .44 Special through than the Charter Bulldog.

I did manage to close the deal. Taurus Tracker .44, 4", blue, checks out good, plus ~500 of his handloads, for $650.

The handloads are older, and he didn't recall the powder or charge. Those will get disassembled, powder discarded and components re-used.

Now to find a holster.....
Galco holster for my GP100 fits my Tracker very well. I’d imagine a S&W L frame holster would work also.

Thanks. That's the kind of information I need. Hardly any holstermakers explicitly list any of the larger than small frame Taurus-s.

If I end up deciding I might actually carry this, I'll probably go the Simply Rugged route.
