My Best Dog Ever Passed Today

I had to put Nyssa down today. She was a bit over 15 years old and couldn't walk or hear any more. She had stopped eating and drinking and I knew it was time.

By dog's standards, these pictures represent a "life well lived."

Sorry for your loss, but great of you to save the prolonged suffering of your hunting mate.

From those pics it’s a given she wasn’t a backyard inmate. That’s the best gift you could have given Nyssa. Nothing any of us can say that’s going to make it any easier. Just know it’s as bad as it’s going to get today and each passing day a little of the edge gets taken off. Don’t ask me how I know.

My beagle is nearing her end. She is 13, deaf, and not very active. It hurts to have to make that decision, and I have only made it one time, but the next time will not be long in the future, nor will it be any easier than the last time. I know the pain, and it doesn’t stop, but know that it was in her best interest. Your pup clearly enjoyed a life of doing what she was born to do. My condolences for you and your family.

Thank you all for the good wishes. She's gone now and it probably won't be that long before I join her.

She thoroughly enjoyed her life and the only thing she wouldn't hunt was a possum. She finished a national field trial when she was 2 y.o. and placed 9th out of 38 dogs entered. I handled her and didn't have a clue what I was doing. She did it all on her own.

She went everywhere with me and knew her job for whatever situation arose. Even though she was a retriever, I think she liked hunting hogs and rabbits the best. I hope there are plenty of those where she is now.

I have always said that everyone needs to have one perfect pet. Remember the good times. She will be waiting for you to cross the Rainbow Bridge into Heaven. The best years are behind my sweet Abby Nermal. She will be 15 this October. Found her as an orphan when she was 2 or 3 weeks old. A better cat buddy would be impossible to find. Will be a sad day when she passes.

Sorry for your loss for that great dog! I'm so glad you recognized and acted on the proper time to put her down as too many people wait entirely too long before they act. As mentioned before you'll meet again at the Rainbow Bridge! Both of those you see in my icon have crossed over and we have another great beagle that eventually will be there but until then it's all good and all love.
