Holy Grail Revolver

Mine was always a nickel 8” Colt Diamondback in .22! Looked for 2 decades and ended up buying a Browning Buckmark Target. I really love the gun.

For imaginary guns, I wish Smith would put the 3" full lug barrel from the 36-6 on a 442.

For real ones, it would have to be a 3" Smith model 64-5 from the brief 18 month period where Smith was cutting grooves in the backstrap/frontstrap of the 64s, a feature usually reserved for it's more upscale brethren. They have a MIM trigger and rebound slide, and the new-style cylinder release, but a forged hammer. I've got a 4" one with a flash-chromed factory-bobbed hammer and I would love to find its little brother.

Pat I have there anniversary issue in .45 Colt I am putting up on the block pretty soon , it has the book, and is as new in case with goodies ,only fired maybe 24 rounds in 30 years. The gun is heavily oiled in my picture so blue appears smudgy but is Python brite ! It IS pinned and recessed !!!! Lets see if I can find a picture. I am not doing it right away and expect to get about $1700 if I sell it in Calif. Maybe in May. It never left my Calif safe so.....

My grail gun is a Colt SAA in 38wcf. Prefer the 7.5” barrel but I’m not choosy. I’d be happy with a shooter.

I had mine for about 4 months. A 1960 no dash model 29 with 5.5” barrel and a near mint set of Coke bottle grips. One of 16 made in that barrel length. After the factory letter arrived it went to a serious collector and the profits reduced the amount of money I have in Smith’s significantly... so I suffer along with a pair of 4 screw pre-29’s. One 4” and one 6.5” which averages to a 5 1/4”.

It is uncommon to find a recessed cylinder on a non-magnum or rimfire. Nice revolver!

Something completely homemade.

This one was a grail gun for a while; a 4" Model 25-9 in .45 Colt. I already had the six inch version but needed (yes needed, not wanted) a 4" version. I like this -dash variant as it has the larger cylinder stop notch and doesn't have the un-fluted and matte finish like the 25-7 or some 25-9 Model of 1989 versions.

Dan Wesson in 44 Magnum with all the barrel length options.

I stumbled on this one five months ago for $800.







Swapped some old Hogue grips on it.



Took it out with my Standard Manufacturing 45 Colt. Both shot well.

My "Grail guns" are both Smiths: a model 53 including .22 LR cylinder and inserts; a 38-44 Heavy Duty, blue or nickel, but in really good shape (doesnt have to be mint, just not beat), preferably 5 inch, but 4 or 6 will do, and the chambers not having been reamed to .357 Mag.

And yes, I'd shoot them both.

My holy grail is a S&W Model 27 3 1/2' inch nickel.

Mine is S&W 624-3 or -4, with 6" or 6.5" barrel. Years ago I had seen one in mint condition at Giovanni's Gun Shop Limited, Toronto (closed now). Unfortunately, at that time, budget was tight, but bigger problem was "magnumitis" I "suffered", as many of us did when we were young. After a number of years and guns, I realized that that revolver has everything I needed, and nothing I didn't. I just didn't know how "special" is 624 in 44 Special.

My former "Holy Grail" gun was this one.....





But I own it now (along with serial numbered box and all paperwork and accoutrements), so doesn't qualify per the OP's instructions. My current "Holy Grail" is this....

One of the best lookin' revolvers ever made, IMO. Congrats, Great Scot .

For me it would be a SW 327 2 inch 357 mag. only 1300 dollars. sigh.

Another one that I picked up last year. First one I have ever seen, a M631 32 H&R.
