Was it a good year for sugaring? I don't know much about it, we have a couple contractors who disappear for a couple weeks while the Sap is running. I'm gonna go broke buying VT maple soft serve ice cream from this place a hop skip from my house. It's addictive....
 
I used to assist a friends family with sugaring in MI.

when we were almost done we would take some of the half way done sap from from the kettle and spike it with our favorite liquor.

Captain Morgan and maple syrup water makes a great combination. So does Jack, Bacardi, and Smirnoff.

I friend down the road experimented making maple syrup this year.... now he's hooked on it. My guess is that he'll soon build his own sugar shack. I'd love to do it, but don't have enough sugar maples on our property here in Mainiac land.

My wife and I were just discussing real maple syrup a couple of days ago. My Grandmother was friends with some folks that made their own in Pennsylvania. She occasionally let us kids have some on her made from scratch hot cakes and corn fritters. Sure beat the commercial stuff for taste. o_O

Welcome back and that picture of your sugar shack kind of made me a little homesick.
