Local gun store has a Dan Wesson .22 LR, six inch barrel, blue, used, nothing else, listed for $500. Ratchet shows no wear but there are bad scuff marks on the frame and barrel shroud. Bore and chambers look good, trigger feels good.

I have never owned or shot a Dan Wesson. If you think it’s a steal at this price I will pursue it. If you think $500 is not anything to get excited about I will pass.

Your thoughts? Thanks.

500 seems fair considering the condition. If that’s what they are asking I would hit them around 350 or 400 and see if they budge. That’s a nice gun, and will likely be one of the most accurate handguns you would ever touch.

Where was the factory location? Given your description of "bad scuff marks", I would pass on $500.

I have owned 2 Dan Wessons, a 357 model 15, and a 357Supermag mod 40, both are tac drivers, and in current times with low usage,
that is a fair price and you can fine additional barrel/shroud combos on Ebay for not too crazy. My 40 came with an 8" barrel only and as you can see in my profile pic. I've got the 10", 2-8" and a 6" for it, the fun is playing with the different barrels, to see which suits you best.

I paid $600+ for a nice 6” Monson, Mass. version last year, $500 is a tad high for one that’s scuffed up. I wouldn’t go over $450 for it, but that’s me.

I got a 4” barrel set from CZ, they may still have some for sale.

My other two DWs are .357 Model 15-2’s. These I really like.

Over the past 18 months or so I’ve tried bidding on .41 and .32 Magnum models, but they are touching house payment prices at auction so I’m still without.

Hopefully it’ll fall into your hands at a good price ;).

Stay safe.

I own 5 DW revolvers, a 22 LR pistol pack, a 357 pistol pack, a 44 mag with 6" and 8" barrels, and two 445 Supermags....$500 is a very low price for a DW 22 revolver. As others have noted, barrels go across Ebay with some regularity, as do the suitcases and other stuff (grips, wrenches, so forth). You can get a barrel wrench and gauge with the three Allen wrenches from EWK Arms for economical price.

Go buy it. You'll be very happy.

Prices are all over the place right now. If I liked it and liked the way it feels, I'd buy it. If its $50 higher than it should be, who cares. If I wanted it I'd still buy it. I've wasted $50 on stupid mess before.
Like NIGHTLORD40K said above, it's a good price for a quality DA .22

I have 3 DW’s and generally keep an eye out for them on local gun sites. I’ve NEVER seen a .22 DW come up for sale locally in 3-4 years. If it’s out of Monson I’d buy it immediately based on your description.

I am ignorant about Dan Wessons. How do I tell if it is a Monson?

I have a .41 DW with a 6" barrel... I've been looking for a 4" barrel to go with it, all that I've seen... and that's been very few... have bid over what I paid for the entire handgun!

$500 is a fair price for a good DW .22, my question is just how bad the scuffs are. I would tend to agree with RUT, however, that's a LOT of pistol for that cartridge. I had a S&W 617 (I think... full lug, K frame) and it was actually a chore to shoot all that pistol vs the S&W 63 I had, which was actually fun.

Bandit67...Wesson was a stickler for production quality and was still associated with the company when guns were made at Monson.

(Like Marlin with the Remington move) after Wesson passed on and they moved locations quality issues surfaced. I’m not up to speed on all of them but would look closely at the gun. The fact a DW wasn’t made at Monson would not preclude me from buying it if price, condition and overall mechanical serviceability were to my liking.

Without pictures it’s tough to judge if it’s merely honest bluing wear and holster-snap scratches or if it is a police-auction gun that’s was skipped across a parking lot by a fleeing suspect and badly dinged up. Hopefully it’s from a careless owner, not a reckless one, if the OP buys the gun.

Those who said it’s a big gun are right, there is nothing dainty about the .22-.22 Mag DW revolvers at all.... especially since they’re only 6-shooters. Add a longer VH barrel shroud and you’re rapidly approaching the point of unwieldyness for a rimfire. Everything about them is pretty much full-sized; from the grip to the frame to the weight.

Stay safe.

This should help make up your mind.

Nice DW, that’s about as clean as the used ones you’ll find get!

That being said, the starting bid is too much, I bet it’ll get bids and sell if he started at $850.

Even if it sells with no other bids when you add tax, shipping, transfer fees, etc. that $1,095 start will be pushing $1,300 when you’re done and it’s in your hand.

He is a consistent seller; when you take a look at his auctions this guy sells nice stuff but prices it too high. Lots of listings but most with zero bids (or one at most).

(I just lost out on a nice S&W 48-7 4”. The winner wanted it more than I, as it would be nearly 1k after all is added up. Too rich for a new model locking Smith :(.)

Stay safe.

Just tossing it out there. Caused me to poke about for a replacement to the DW I stupidly sold 30 years ago. Maybe some day I'll own a handgun again as accurate as that 357 was, but I'm unlikely to pay over a grand for one. Was an awfully nice revolver,...

I missed a complete 32 mag pistol pack (2 barrel set) because I stopped bidding at $2400...and that was well before the ‘Rona..
Dan Wesson IHMSA .32 Mag 8” 2-barrel set for $2,200.00 on GB now..oh if only I had got any stimulus $$ :(.

OP, let us know if you pulled the trigger on the DW .

Stay safe.

Thank you enablers!!

I went back to the lgs for another look. The store owner said this gun was a consignment sale. The owner had loaned it to his brother, who left it in a camper shell where moisture got to it. So the damage is surface rust, made worse in spots by bubba’s attempts to remove the rust.

It is a Monson gun, serial number 14,081, which as best I can tell dates it around 1979. I bought it for $400 plus tax.

Pix show it as it came home from the lgs. Worst spots are behind the left side recoil shield. I will post more pix after cleaning and range testing.
