I am not a handloader, and the people in this sub-forum know a lot more about ammunition than I do. However, I learned something new today, and I thought people here might be interested: It is possible for your ammunition to be "Legacy Grade":

Is this a common term among handloaders? I tried searching for it, but I didn't have any luck. Do you think it means this ammo is an heirloom to be passed from generation to generation because it is too good to fire? Or was there some really great handloader named Bob Legacy, and they are claiming that this is as good as his stuff?

This is for sale for $30 per box of 20, plus $10 for shipping. by somebody on GunBroker I have no connection with..

2 bucks per round to your door? You could buy components and tools to load it with and break even after about 150 rounds.

I have never heard of legacy grade before and I suspect it just means that it is loaded how it was in the cartridges heyday.

While the term is a recent, perhaps proprietary, fabrication, it makes good sense. While we have "Cowboy" loads for 45 Colt, the term Legacy Grade makes some sense, presumably conveying "compatible with period pressures". I like it. If it's honest, even better.

Welcome to the Handloader dungeon, we can sound strange, probably because we are.

that round is made for cutting perfectly good wade size circles on paper. or making a “ding” noise on steel. It’s used in SASS shooting sport.

It's "Legacy Grade" because one day your children will find it and the pistol it was for among your effects. Be sure to put both in a nice wood box so the whole thing will then be "Presentation Grade" and they can feel like Dad left them something special.

So the handloader equivalent of Paul Bunyan or John Henry (the steel drivin' man) is not a guy named Bob Legacy? Darn. I figured there were probably some good stories about him. :)

Exactly! Although I think that most companies already do so in a way and underload certain rounds just in case it would be a nice niche in the market to make ammo for older guns specifically. I would think that liability would be huge. So I see this as, we loaded it down so you can shoot your old gun without hurting it and therefore keeping it as a "Legacy".

That would make sense, wcwhitey. But I think if it were true, the manufacturer and/or the seller would carefully spell it out. So I assume swg is right when he calls it marketing. I thought it was just a silly synonym for "premium". And calling something premium is often just hype.

I compared the velocity data on the box (740 fps) to something similar in Vihtavuori's published data.
Their lowest charge weight for a 98gn LWC is 1,4 gn of VV N310 which produce 764 fps out of a 6" barrel.
So your box seems to be even below this minimum load.

I'm not saying that your cartridges are filled with N310 (which they are most probably not) but it gives a fair view on what's in the box and what to expect.
Although I have never shot any kind of .32 S&W Long, I still expect this load to be in the range of MMF or others would say "mild mouse fart".

The only thing about the zombie ammo was the green tip. Being as I like green (see my avatar) I just had to buy a couple of boxes of 223 bullets to save for my "collection" of such things. Goes along with my green powder coat too.
you’re under thinking it! certain animals can’t see green, Hornady did their research on Zombies!

Well, now I have to chime in: IF "Legacy Grade" means of superior quality, the backwards primer is a no-sale. IF it means, loaded like "Legacy" ammo, to olde tyme spec's, then the .32 wadcutter's a no-sale - that's strictly a post-smokeless, post-war, modern target shooter convention. The 32 Long button-nosed lead wadcutter was designed for 25 meter European competition so it isn't even an American "Legacy" load. IF it means loaded for "legacy" firearms to lowest possible pressures and still put a hole in paper, then just stick a "-P" on the label and have done with it because the entire "legacy grade" moniker just makes the seller sounds pretentious and like a cheap knock-off carnival barker
