I had a bit of a problem with Optics Planet recently. It was self induced on my part by a typo on an email address while purchasing a gift card for a friend. So, I took a shot at straightening it out. Mainly, I wanted to know if the card had been expended by whoever I actually did send it to. If not, perhaps Optics Planet could redirect the card to the proper email address.....

The bottom line to my efforts is I never really got their customer service to understand what I wanted to check on and what I wanted to do after that. Basically, what I got, over and over, was "Covid, covid, covid". Then I actually checked their physical location. Illinois. Suburb of Chicago. Huh. At that point, I gave up and added Illinois to my list of places to avoid doing business with. That list also includes NY and NJ and California (just on principle).

Anybody else noticed a correlation between poor service and outdoor businesses located in certain places? Am I just lucky to have problems with businesses in blue states?

Location can absolutely play a role. There are still places that have greatly reduced staff due to CoVid. Reduced staff means reduced resources and capacity for follow ups in regards to situations like your inquiry. I would not be surprised at all if the Chicago area was one of those places.

I stated on another forum that I do not buy NEW guns from anti gun states ( yes, this even includes S&W!). I ended up getting into a big discussion with a guy from New York that just couldn’t seem to grasp my logic of not wanting to support the economy of such a state.

He then brought up the great point of other types of purchases that I may have made to those states.

I just said, thanks for pointing that out, I will cease and desist ALL merchandise purchases from anti gun states.

Yet here you are, likely using a computer that has 90% of its parts made in Communist China and an operating system written by a California company.
Chairman Mao and Governor Gavin Newsome say thanks for your support!

As dogtown tom states it is increasingly problematic to boycott various countrys or businesses when the production of products is so twisted and blurred as to the actual origion. Bet your car has computer chips/modules from china. How about your car radio, TV, etc. Yes good intentions but who knows?

Well, if he uses a Windows operating system, Microsoft was founded in Albuquerque and HQ is in Redmond, WA. If he uses a Intel chip, they make those in California. I don't know about his lap, but mine is Japanese.

I've had good service and prices from Adorama in NYC and businesses in other places on your list, and poor service from others around the country.

In my experiences, location wasn't necessarily a governing factor.

I've actually used Adorama. Seems to be a good company. Others out of NY/NJ have failed to get my purchase to me. May just be a shipping chain problem, but I still head off further problems by not buying from that region.

I agree. I use gunbroker.com and have found it is pretty easy to pick guns based on where they are located. Unless you are buying a one of a kind item, you most likely have a choice. No need to support antigun areas.

Your problem is buying from Optics Planet, not where they are located. They have notoriously poor customer service.
Name a state, someone will be along to give a company located there with poor customer service.

I was kind of operating on the wave length that potential customer service issues are caused by a certain attitude that may be regional in nature. Sort of like going to Texas and strangers stop you on the street to say Hi and chitchat about the weather. Or going to certain parts of Chicago where strangers stop you and mug you.

Which really has very little to do with firearms. ;)
