To be honest, I didn't like cattle brand engraving at first. Then the more I studied engraving and the more original Colt's I drooled over, the more I changed my mind about them. I still wouldn't pay hand-cut engraving prices for this style but when I saw Pietta start offering it done with their laser engraving, I started lusting. So this .45Colt from Taylor's has a new home in Tennessee. I've got several of their laser engraved percussion guns and always thought them to be very nice for the modest price tag.

Now to figure out what kind of gunleather it would best model for..... ;)

I agree with you Craig, to the extent that the “brand” engraving would not interest me for a first engraved gun, but I would enjoy adding one to an engraved collection.

I’m confident that if I found one in the wild I would own it shortly.

That's actually a possibility. I hadn't thought of it but I've seen a few. Here's a web pic I found.

Umm, no, a big fat NO. That thing makes my eyes hurt. Done better, a lot better, it might fly but I would have to see one to pass judgment. I lean to a full floral pattern along the lines of an Al Stholman pattern. He had some really good looking floral patterns.

Well, that’s...different. Wonder if they planned Pac-Man on the cylinder:thumbdown: But I think I like it. Having grown up with cattlemen, I definitely have an appreciation for what a brand means. It’s more than just a mark for identification. For those like my grandfather who truly strived to produce the best possible beef they could through controlled breeding programs, and made a name for himself doing it, it’s a sense of pride.

CraigC,

You have demonstrated good taste in your creations. No need for my input. I just want to see what you come up with! Get to work and post pix soon.

A beautiful gun! I for one like engraved guns. It takes an everyday firearm and elevates it to a higher, artistic level.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in terms of complementing your new "cattle brand" single action!
