OH Legal Switchblade Carry Law Goes Into Effect Mon. Apr. 12, 2021

Excellent news! I'll be traveling to Ohio in June, and it'll be nice to not have to leave my fast-opening knife at home.

I’ll carry my Emissary but am planning on buying a Boker Kalashnikov.

I have lived in Ohio all my life and never owned a switch blade. I wouldn't even know where to start.

House Bill 243 (Ohio Knife Law Preemption) doesn't just address "switch" blades; it also encompasses and makes legal "spring-assisted and gravity knives". The next step for knife owner advocates is to pass legislation that will repeal and prevent local ordinances more restrictive than state law. As hso noted, it's important to acknowledge Knife Rights' six year effort to get SB140 passed. Much credit is also owed to the Republican legislators and the Republican Governor who made this common sense law possible.

Actually, it is the other part of SB 140 that seems to be so much more important than the part about switchblades. It seems, to me, MUCH more important how the law defines such terms as “knife,” and “weapon,” and “deadly weapon.”

I have little fascination with auto-opening knives, but do like to carry well-built, sturdy, serious knives.
