I have owned 2 Freedom Arms model 83 454 casull field grades
I found both to be Outstanding Quality and extremely accurate revolvers and I still have one with a 7.5 inch ported barrel but sadly it has No front or rear sight although it does have an excellent scope base and scope and I have taken deer with it.

I am seriously considering getting a Premier grade model 83 454 casull with 7.5 inch barrel that has nice either micarta or rosewood grips and Has original front and rear sights.

Does the Premium grade offer anything above the field grade Other than a superior Polished Finish and Fancier (albeit less practical) Grips?
Is it in any way Mechanically/Functionally better or in its Machining and Fitting quality Superior?

I'm looking at paying about $2,000 for one very lightly used in excellent condition.
According to everything I've seen on auction sites and used gun sales sites this is a good price given today's market.

I paid about $1250 for my Field grade about 5 years ago.

I ordered mine 20+ years ago, so don't know the current FA situation. Back then, IIRC, the Premier Grade had a steel rear adjustable sight instead of aluminum, and lifetime warranty. This, in addition to the differences you've already mentioned. I've never shot mine much, but don't regret buying the Premier Grade in the configuration I did, and with an aux. .45 ACP cylinder.

Field grade is for the field, premier grade is for the bbq. Well the premier will work fine in the field too, they're just so darn pretty.
I love my 10" field grade, wouldn't sell it for anything.

It is $$ to get grips to fit one after it leaves the factory so if you like the wood or micarta over the rubber ones keep that in mind.
Personally, I couldn't stand the poor fitting rubber ones that came on my field grade so had to ship the gun out to get ones made for it.
I know, mine needs new grips. The pacmyr things on there are a disgrace to such a fine revolver. I've got to just bite the bullet and have some made, they're not cheap

You must have some fun BBQs!
Are you hunting the hogs there and then barbecuing them the same day?

That's a good point about the grips thanks.
The PAC Myer grips though are a bit more practical than the wood or micarta given this caliber.
But does the nice shape of those Premier grips and more the bisley configuration reduce or modify recoil in any way that is more comfortable?
Or does the hardwood just plain hurt more?

What really bothers me about My revolver the fact that not only the rear but also front sight was for some reason removed or never on there perhaps to begin with when the mount for the scope was added.
I get that the rear sight had to be removed but I don't understand why the front sight is not there and yet the barrel is still super smooth or the front so I'm wondering if one was ever there at all?

These are great triggers I don't see why anybody would pay for a trigger job on a Freedom Arms model 83.
Since it's only single action and extremely well machined and fitted my experiences no one should be disappointed with Freedom Arms standard trigger as all their work is essentially higher quality than Smith & Wesson Performance Center and colts
