I finally saw one in the flesh today, been thinking about a Shield Plus to replace my 43X.

I have a multitude of small 9mm carry guns: G3c, P365, Hellcat, 43X, etc. They all wormed their way into my heart for some reason. I think each of them is different enough that they all have their own thing about them that gives me pause about parting with one over the other.

To be honest, I've never been a big Ruger fan. I like the 22/45s, MKIII/V but their striker fired guns never really impressed me. I don't like the roll pin take down vs a simple lever. You get the idea.

I got the Max in my hand and...oh boy. I think it's somewhere between the 365 and XL in size. Wherever it is, it just felt better than both. One reason I've been a fan of the G3c, and have kept the one I got as a raffle prize is because the it's not too large and not a micro. The grip size and texture are just comfortable to shoot all day or carry all day. The XL grip is still a tad too narrow for me.

The Max feels just right, and I liked the little finishing touches of a good tritium/fiber optic tube on the front as well as the little reverse crown done on the barrel. So as for my posts on the original Max 9 thread - egg on face, foot in mouth. The little Max 9 just works for me, and I made the purchase. I can get over the take down pin, my LCP 22 has been easy enough to live with.

The best part though..optic ready, two mags, night sight- and it was $130 less than the price the 365 is going for these days.

Pics and range review when I get to shoot it. I live in WI where our background checks have to go through a state agency and they're way behind..hopefully I'll get a call today that it's ready for pick up.

Good for you. I had it in my mind to look for one today. I went to shoot at lunch and stopped by the counter to ask about the Ruger and the S&W Shield Plus. Guy said they had about 20 of each and they are all gone. It's amazing to me how bare their shelves are.

A small amount will come back eventually. My 365 and 43X were traded in by first time buyers that got them new and traded them in as they thought they were too snappy. I still like the idea of the Shield Plus, it feels wonderful in my hands, I think they're a little pricey. The regular M2.0 Shields go for $449 around me and that's what I paid for the Max-9. The Shield Plus is $100 more. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a used one. :)

Comparing it to the Taurus G3 is appropriate. I have a G2c and when I handled the Max-9 yesterday at the LGS, it reminded me of my only Taurus. Now that I hear people are having issues with the slide finish coming off, just like the Taurus G2, it is even more appropriate.

The Pro model?

No, the regular one.

I imagine the edges of the Max slide will wear off like the my LCP 380 and 22. Hard to find a durable finish these days, I have a month old P320 Legion and M18 that look like they've been through 20 USPSA matches.

What's a decent price for a MAX 9? My lgs is selling them for $400.00. Thanks.
I would say that is pretty decent, especially with the generally inflated prices of firearms at the moment. I would think that they’ll eventually be even cheaper when the market gets flooded with em. Just my opinion though.

If I was going to choose between the P365, Hellcat , Shield Plus & the Max 9 .. it would between S&W and Ruger .. and Im leaning toward the Ruger
Im just broke ... but not gun poor

I've only had my Max out once. It functioned fine, but I still prefer the Hellcat all because of the trigger. If the aftermarket trigger sorts out the angle of the pull and shorten the reach, it'll do wonders for the Max 9.

Im quoting myself .. I may have found a LGS with a Ruger Max 9

How about the new Taurus GX4 that's about to be released?

Id would say soon .. hopefully in the fall...From what I have seen its 11+1 , striker fired .. and similar sized to the P365 , Hellcat & Ruger Max 9

And SCCY is rolling out with a DVG .. striker fired .. smaller diameter grip .. 5.5 # trigger pull ..15.5 oz
10+1
