Ghost guns

Interesting, but the pot abusers I have known have always been less than ambitious. Paranoid yes, but pretty laid back lazy paranoid. Like lock the doors and windows and flake out on the couch.

Living here in Colorado I know quite a few users. Some I’ve known since the 60’s and some of those have been using every day since the 60’s. Some are ambitious, go getters, some fit your profile and others are pretty much like anyone else. Pot users fall within a spectrum like any other group. As a Veteran, and a veteran of law enforcement for a relatively short time, I can tell you I’ve known some crazy violent people who used pot as their drug of choice. Combat Vets? Sure, you’d expect them to be able to get to jump street pretty damn fast. But pot does not calm the criminal mind. Often quite the opposite. Regular people get a bag of Cheetos and veg out on the couch. Criminals will stab you for those Cheetos and veg on your couch...

Being a regular SHOT show attendee I have watched the ML/BP industry up front and personal. I have Met most of the "biggies" over the decades and seen the trends both up and down. This Ghost gun thing may really affect our hobby but not how you may think. Every time Govt does something even remotely anti gun it spurs ALL gun sales. Controls on the most modern arms seems to increase interest in anything that is more readily accessible like BP/ML. IMHO Cheap Milsurps and ammo put the biggest dent in BP interest. Now that that is over and I see the BP/ML market bouncing back. If govt actual enforces this ghost gun (and other anti-2A) non sense it may really boost BP/ML popularity. Add in the combination modern ammo shortages , run away inflation , steel prices (and growing fear levels) and it will be an interesting time for our hobby.

I guess I am glad I am a hoarder. Bought my first BP rifle 2.5 years ago, shot it, loved it, and started buying this and that. At least for now, percussion is my idea of fun, although I will eventually fool with a flinter. But I have everything I want to play with in percussion rifles and revolvers for the forseeable future with the possible exception of a shotgun. Since I am often hunting in places where I either can't use lead shot or would not want to bring a fine gun (have literally been sandblasted several times on one property), that is sort of optional. Rather be lucky than good, I guess.

Don't know if i will go to next SHOT show. Heard many former contacts have passed and many others will be unable to travel due to fauxvid issues. Flat fascinating to see prototypes and market research BP items. Some of the custom builders are out of this world. (Once handed a custom gold and platinum inlaid $200,000 shotgun and damn near dropped it when told price!!. ). Hope the Europeans get back in production or there really will be "ghost" guns. Friends in Italy and Spain say all the signs point to low production and market killing prices so you may want to buy what you can while you can. Even the India guys may be affected. Glad i'm old and have what i need.

Vintovka, I assume the italian factories are a mess? Seems like europe is struggling with lockdowns again, let alone supply chain chaos and materials price increases.

Yes.
I have No first hand information other than current conversations with friends over there and welcome any European ( or Brit) to chime in at any time. As an Italian American I do know Italy has historically suffered from severe labor issues. Strikes, pay demands, inflation continue to take toll. Fauxvid has added to problems scaring the crap out of workers. (Been told that if one person dies in car accident and 200 are reported as fauxvid deaths.) Not much better here. Like here many are imported laborers to which there is great opposition but no solution. Many materials are imported as well compounding shortage and quality problems. They do have some of the best and most modern CNC machines so if you have means buy what you can right now as future production is doubtful. Steel prices alone could ruin everything. Heck my metal garage cost 9k us on march 28 and same building went to 14K on April 1. Time to worry is when India goes belly up.

All my black powder kit rifles that go back 23 years all have serial numbers on them. They include CVA, Lyman and Investarms.
As for the Colorado I think the store shooting was because of something else. The facts are: he was Syrian although raised in the U.S.; his parents said he was paranoid and anti-social; he was also an antifas sympathizer; he was on the FBI terrorist watch list: he bought his rifle two weeks before the shooting and played with it every night according to his parents; The U.S started bombing Syrian targets as of late; the store is famous statewide for kosher foods. Now being on a FBI watch list, don't you think it would raise some eye-brows when this guy bought a gun? See his mug shot on TV? He looked like he was 18. See him after his arrest, he looked like he was 40. He is in fact just turned 21. The President was briefed on all this before he started his gun control tirade. Apparently Joe didn't want to appear to be a racist.

I swear, it feels like we are in a store in the soviet union.

"I need size 12 shoes."

"We only have 7s and 15s."

"Da toverisch, I will take one of each if I am allowed to."

Somethin just aint right.... And I don't trust the gubment.

It's called HIPAA.

Prior to the beginning of WW2, laws were enacted that when a patient was diagnosed with syphilis, they had to by law divulge the names of their previous sexual partners. Those people would then be contacted and tested. EVEN AFTER penicillin was developed, those laws remained. Today, syphilis is NOT a deadly STD..., BUT...., if a person gets diagnosed with it, they will get contacted by the local County Health Department, ordered to take a second, more conclusive test, and have to to divulge the identities of their sexual partners. OR got to jail. It's no longer deadly, curable, but HIPAA doesn't cover the patient's privacy.....

BUT..., try to suggest that a person who is been prescribed a drug that is indicated for schizophrenia..., not diagnosed, but simply prescribed the meds, ...try to suggest that person's name should be given to the State Police and they be prohibited from a legal firearm sale, and HIPAA is invoked. Now NOT all people with schizophrenia, or who are treated with a drug indicated for schizophrenia, are going to become mass shooters. BUT TOO MANY of the mass shooters are schizophrenics. FURTHER..., you don't hear about the schizophrenics that only kill a few people, one at a time, or when they kill a few with a knife. You don't hear about the nutters who get intercepted trying to buy firearms either. (I hear about all of the scenarios because of my job)

For example, the left loves to point out the UK has "less gun violence", BUT the UK averages 82 murders a year from schizophrenics, and none use firearms (source The London Daily Mail)

The vast majority off the mass shooters in the USA are mentally ill. Viginia Tech, Aurora CO, Sandy Hook, the list goes on....., but these folks legally get firearms. The law (imho) needs to be for people who are prescribed the meds as the doctors will "play cute" and give some sort of odd diagnosis, and then prescribe the meds..., to avoid reporting. So prescribe the meds and they should go on a list. PERIOD. HIPAA needs to be changed.

So you mentioned how you "don't trust the gubment"? You're right. The politicians calling for gun control KNOW the issue is one of mental health, but refuse to act in an actual proactive, preventive manner. That would pretty much eliminated mass shootings, but then that would take away one of their arguments to disarm the population. Remember Saul Alinsky taught all of the closet-Commies in DC that you never solve a problem, as that means the population doesn't need you any longer in a position of power. OH and some folks think that if we did the "mental health prohibited list" idea, the nutters would simply buy stolen guns..., well it's not as easy to buy a stolen gun as that.

We now return you to the black powder sub forum....

You mentioned pot for vets...i actually have seen it work first hand on a lot of vets with PTSD, sometimes it was the only thing that worked....now not just any pot...usually had to be a specific strain(s) with specific qualities. I have actually seen it do a lot of good for vets and individuals with medical issues. I am not a vet...but i have known some in my life...and a vietnam vet i knew named "Skip" smokes pot. The most energetic and physically fit adult i ever knew as a kid. He would kayak and date women half his age and do all this outdoor stuff. He was the "coolest" adult i knew. I looked up to him. As i got older and was going through school and learning that pot is bad and will make you kill people and rob houses..i also learned Skip used it for his PTSD (his den always smelled "funny" to me as a naive pre-teen) and it made me question if it was actually bad and if i was being told the truth about it...because if it was bad then why was Skip such an amazing person? Later on Skip told me without it he wouldnt be able to function..his PTSD was extreme and all medications and counceling didnt help. Hes also the first person to introduce me to black powder. It was a cap and ball colt revolver...he kept it in his den in a display box. I used to stare and marvel at this glorious piece of equipment. He said it was his grand fathers, so i assume it was an original colt. He'd let me hold it and look it over from time to time.

Sounds just like me! Except I don’t smoke the devils lettuce, and I’ve been married to the same woman since 1969 so all of those women half my age have just had to lust after me from afar... otherwise, this guy could be my twin!

From my time in SEA Pot started many PTSD problems and lead down the road to absolute ruin of lives and in some cases their end. Some went quick from "Thai Grass" to opium addiction in less than a 179 day TDY. Others picked up habit, got careless and got busted back in states. One ended his life.

Sorry to say as of last Sat 48.75 for osb ply wood was gone at near 60 but still had $9 2x4s. All steel products have or will go up when manufacturers raw stock is gone. Best buy whatever you can while you can despite cost (guns, ammo, food). If this is war we are losing.
