Star BM Accuracy Issues

I have a Star BM pistol that is tremendously inaccurate. When I say inaccurate, I mean that the groups are 6-12” at 15 yards when slow firing. This happens with 115gr, 124gr, and 147gr bullets alike.

The poor accuracy is not due to my abilities as a shooter. With every pistol (50+) that I own, I can consistently shoot 3” groups at that range. I can shoot tighter than that with my better guns. I **** international pistol competitively in college. I also fired the Star resting it on a table to further eliminate variables.

The gun is reliable. I’m thinking there is an issue with the barrel and/or bushing. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know of anybody making tight bushings or oversize barrels for the Stars.

EMC has your best chance; a lot of European 9mm barrels are larger than we think they should be.

First thing I would suggest is to carefully inspect your pistols muzzle crown. Any dents, dings gouges etc there can and will mess up accuracy. You can re-crown with valve lapping compound, a brass round headed 1/4" bolt head and an electric drill. You can try using cast bullets for a .38 Spl. They should run 0.358" versus the standard for 9mm of 0.356" Following that, new barrels are readily available. JG and others have them.
Worthy to check to see if your barrel link has been stretched, common with BMs, EGW has new ones that are far superior to the originals.
My BM is not a target pistol, but is adequate out to 50 yards. I guess you could call it combat sufficient.

Load it with fat bullets if you handload. My Browning Hi Power (Belg/Port) was so so with accuracy until I started feeding it .358 cast bullets. Shoots like a target gun now.
Yup. My BM had the same problems until I switched to a hollow base type bullet -Federal 105gr eFMJ - and the groups settled down to a consistent 3-4” two handed, no rest.
For the OP, do you hand load 9mm?

Thanks for the feedback! I do indeed hand load so I just might start troubleshooting by loading some fatter bullets and seeing how things play out.
