Long Range Rifle/Scope/PRS question(s)

Good to know that Walkalong had success with RL15. I have 12 pounds of it and only 4 of Varget.

Anybody read up on the new RL15.5?

I think that I am going Dasher as I am hearing about feeding issues both here and from others about 6GT. I was also considering 6BRA but it seems like those need to be pushed harder.

What mags are you guys using for Dasher?

Dasher, BRA, or GT, any of them can have the same feeding issues. GT is less likely than the other two, since it’s a longer cartridge.

Personally, I find it to really be a matter of tuning your mags to feed. I’ve ran Dasher out of standard mags without choking, and the GT is only easier... or any of them can choke, even out of blocked mags. Center feed, blocked mags are the least likely to choke with any of them, but it’s really a matter of making sure your feed lips are holding the round at the appropriate angle during the feed stroke.

I like AW mags and MDT 12rnd mags for PRS. The AW mags are short, so I can get low and close, and when I need extra rounds for certain stages, the MDT 12 round mags feed smoothly. AICS mags are the gold standard. ARC will choke on dust. Pmags will choke on air - absolute no go for me.

The mags with the back spacer are intended for the 6 BR class of cartridges, 6 BR, 6BRA, 6 BRX, etx. 6GT uses standard AICS type mags. Mt buddy Jeff had trouble with his first AICS "type" mag (Don't remember which brand), but he had "tweaked the feed lips. He bought an Accurate brand AICS type mag and his 6 GT has feed flawlessly from it in his Axiom action in an MDT chassis.

My AICS .308 mag with the Primal Rights spacer runs Dasher 100% in my Impact, as does my MDT 12 round Dasher mag. Holds 12 in the same height as ten in the standard AICS mag/spacer kit.

I'm not a big believer in playing with feed lips.

L —> R: Blocked AW, blocked 12rnd MDT, standard ARC, standard AICS. You can see, all of them are wide body mags, such they are stagger stack - AW more staggered than the rest - but only the AW mags are stagger feed. The others are all center feed. Easier loading AW mags, pop in like AR mags, while center feeders have to be slipped front to back like a Pistol mag. But if you drop an AW mag, occasionally all of the rounds spray out, since it doesn’t have the top round securely held by both lips.

I have the AICS with Primal Rights Spacers in mine- Green Followers is what I just got from PR - so easy for me to identify...since they are the only green follower magazines I own.
still waiting for MDT to ship the 12 Rounders, I ordered in Jan, they are forecasting Mid May on the last update.

Thanks guys for all the input.

Despite the 10-15MPH varying winds today, I took the Bergara out for some fun.

Not a great showing at 50 but considering the wind was blow so hard that the target backer was fluttering, I'll take it as a good start

Sweet! I don't have any match grade .22 LR right now, and won't until the prices get back to normal.

My buddy Jeff and I are going to shoot at Blakely Sat. I gave (loaned) him 130 Alpha Dasher cases to shoot his new Dasher at Altus, but his Whidden dies still aren’t here, so guess who had to size them. I went ahead and chamfered/deburred them as well.

We are a great deal more apt to see this than snow.

That humidity seems on the low side :D

A 6mm Dasher prefit barrel, 300 cases, and dies are on the way to me from another PRS shooter who has gone to 6GT

I have a good amount of RL15, 8208, and SW Precision to load with. I'll probably start with the Precision using 110 SMKs and go from there.

Ive said it many times. Ill take my 118 degrees with 8 percent humidity over 95 degrees with 50 percent humidity any day of the week.
A few years back we went with kids to a baseball tournament in Texas in August, it was just that, like an oven, vs the sauna here. Not dripping sweat like you do here. It evaporated too fast.

Well, actually... yep, it gets a lot worse. :)

I checked zero and got my velocity at 78 degrees after work today, all I had was cool weather velocity (2840 @ 60 degrees) It ran 2904, 2906, & 2906 at 78 degrees today. I trued my BC at 1000 yards, and I am ugrading the Kestrel (66% done) after inputting the new temp/velocity in the Kestrel App on my phone. I hope it doesn't wipe out my gun profile this time, like it did before. When I started the transfer, it said it might. Oh joy. :)

Dunno, struck me that way too, but I know it has bit me in the butt before. I figured out how to add both temp/velocities straight into the Kestrel and turn the MV on. Upgrading the Kestrel wiped the saved gun out. Overall I feel better about my dope now. Truing the BC has to help, I have been a little high at around 1K and out the last two times out with the new powder lot/charge/lower velocity (or was it?) Might bump the 60 degree FPS up, might not.
