Finally shot my LR308

Nice! I just built an AR-10 in 6.5CM on a AP set... I have an Odin Works barrel and adjustable gas block. My previous build... a .308 with a BA 18" middy barrel, as a matter of fact... was seriously over-gassed... I should have put an adjustable gas block on it.

Good looking rifle !

FWIW... don't be surprised if it "needs" a break in period for 100% function.

That's awesome! This is my first ground up build. I did a ton of reading and decided to go adjustable because many people had over gas issues with .308

Thanks! That's good to know. I will keep that in mind. Now if I can only find enough ammo to run through it.

Question... or perhaps comment... for you.

Did you lap the receiver to true it up to the barrel? While the AP receivers are nice, they are not perfect. I lapped both the .308 and 6.5CM build before torquing down the barrels... I think it helped. The 6.5 receiver took a lot more work than the .308 one did, and I'm still not very happy with it. I'm taking it out to NV next week to see how it does... if I get weirdness, I'm going to pull the barrel and lap it some more.

That shiny ring is a sign of an evenly lapped surface for the barrel to bear into...

I did not. Didn't know that was a thing.

Just read an article about it. What brand tool did you use?

I have a couple rifles that I built on Aero Precision M5 receivers. Both are plenty accurate and have been 100% reliable in fairly limited use. One has an 18” Faxon Gunner profile barrel in 308. The other sports a Wilson Combat Recon profile, fluted 6.5 CM barrel. That’s a good looking rig you’ve built. With a little tuning of the gas system and maybe some buffer/buffer spring changes, I bet you get it running just fine.

Wheeler makes a kit. They are specific, of course... AR-10 or AR-15.

Note of caution: The AP M5 receiver is different than the M5 Advanced receiver... which has a different type of barrel nut. They take a proprietary lapping bar.

I dont think it is worth buying the tool to lap a receiver for one or two builds. Also I have two builds, neither lapped, and I can easily hit a soda can at 200 yds. So not losing any sleep here.

I could see that. I have talked to a few people who were having accuracy problems with their AR-10's, and how they solved it... what I meant to suggest is, if the OP turns out to have subpar accuracy, that is a good place to start.

My plan is to get the gas system tuned, then sight it in. If accuracy is an issue, I will go further. This is all dependent on ammunition. I only have 46 rounds left. I finished the build right about the time the plandemic started, so finding 308/7.62 has been difficult

Nice looking rifle. I have a simlar muzzle brake on my Ar15 in 223 and 300 blackout. The people next to me hate me for it. But it takes so much recoil off of the gun im not taking it off. Lol

It is a VG6 epsilon. I usually shoot in a gravel pit and the kids and I have the place to ourselves, so no need to worry about the guy in the next stall.

Don't get too overzealous with the lapping or you will have a long, cylindrical paperweight.
