We are near the end of waiting for ammo

Just looked for some .30-30 and it's still $3/round. 7.62x39, 9mm, and 5.56 are still double what I'll pay. I'll start to worry when my 25,000 .22s are down to 5000 rounds.

It appears that most of the ammunition companies, other than Remington, are nearly caught up in production with their contracts after being shut down for four months last year.

I think you have gotten some bad information regarding corporate tax structures. And you understand that Federal and CCI are owned by Vista Outdoors ( https://vistaoutdoor.com/brands/ ) and that Vista Outdoors purchased from the proceedings of the bankruptcy court the Remington name (brand) and some of the assets including the ammunition lines and related facilities. The output of the former Freedom Group/Remington plant has been hardly above idle for about a year. Any contracts that the former Remington (of the Freedom Group) may have had or debts or other encumberments would have been rendered null and void in the bankruptcy.

If this information spread, even if it’s incorrect, it might cause those who are fueling this panic to take a step back and possibly wait it out so they can pay “normal” prices. And if people stop buying, that might cause the capitalists (scalpers) to lower their prices. All of which could cause a domino effect to lower prices even further.

I don't want to be a jerk, but without named sources or links to back up these claims, this is just another "I heard from a friend of a friend whose dad heard from an old military buddy at a poker game..." thread.

Yep.

For the past two weeks local Walmarts have carried a lot of CCI Quiet.22 (I call it CB Long Rifle) at $3.84 a box. One store has a 3 box limit, the other a 1 box limit. 12ga skeet loads Winchester AA s under $8 a box, Win Universal under $6, Win 7.62x51 fmj under $22 abox of 20. The shotshells disappear fast.

There is very little trickling down in this area. About 3.5 weeks ago I went to Academy sports at 10 not looking for ammo, but stopped by on the way to the restroom and they had 3 different flavors of 9mm,.40,.45,.22, rifle and shotgun ammo. Two of the 9mm was $17.99/50 and Federal was $18.49/50. I was surprised to say the least. 2 box limit. The sales clerk said they didn't know it was coming. This btw was the first reasonably price ammo I have seen in over a year. 1 LGS has ammo, but it is pretty expensive

You guys make me laugh. The component shortages that run along with ammo shortages are never the same. Buying 4 billion primers might just help you out in the long run but it doesn’t do squat if you can’t find powder. You have to diversify and get ALL the stuff that goes into a round. Primer, powder, bullet, shot, wads, etc.

Well, yeah.

Except I still have and can occasionally find powder and projectiles. Heck I just received a thousand Berry's 230 grain FMJ yesterday and found a few pounds of Autocomp at the shop the other week.

So I plant to stack it all deeper, but most especially primers.

And what were the prices on the various calibers at Rural King ?
As of this morning the local store had

7.62x39, .223 and 5.56 (in several size boxes to include 150 rds), 204 Ruger, 12 ga 00 (about $12 for 20), 22-250, 357 Mag, 7.62x54R, .30-06

Prices ranged a bit. But nothing over 50 cents per round.

Primers are probably the hardest thing to make or substitute. Not that it’s difficult to physically make the primer, but getting the chemicals and tools to do it is the hard part. Nitrocellulose powder is dangerous to make and even more dangerous to use homemade powder of unknown burn characteristics because home-brew would probably not be well controlled and therefore not be predictable. Black powder however works. It may not cycle a semiauto and it may not have the velocity or range that smokeless powder does, but it CAN be made relatively simply and safely. Lead can be cast. Brass can be reused several times. So powder and primers should be top priority, bullets if you can’t make your own.

They were never behind in production, hence no "nearly caught up".

Federal has been reported to have shut down sales at the end of last year because sales were so large that they were being pushed into a higher tax bracket.
Absolute baloney.

They are reported to have been stockpiling and will do a massive dump on the market in May.
Enough baloney that I can make two sammiches.

Well you might need another loaf of bread to use all that baloney up!:p Things are starting to trickle in but until there is a choice of different brands of primers that stay on the shelves for extended periods I will not breath a sigh of relif.
Just remember that Remington, who makes a quarter of all primers, has been down for 9 months. And much of the primers have been used in getting outstanding contracts filled.

No improvement here in Cincinnati still bare shelves.
I just gave up waiting and spent my Nancy Pelosi money on ammo on GunBroker.
Paid way too much for 9 mm. 22 long rifle and .22 magnum but at least I've got it and don't have to worry about it.
Still can't bring myself to pay what they're asking for .357 Magnum even with free guvment money.

Distinguish ....between seeing a fair bit of ammo soon after Opening Hour,

or do we assume that you guys -always-mean...hours Later?

Totally different scenarios and conclusions.

Ammo wise where I am at, its odd ball shotgun shells, and pretty much that's it. Cabelas had about 10 boxes of assorted shotgun shells today. All other shelves that normally have ammo are full of empty plastic ammo cans. Local Bi-Mart is the same, but they filled theirs with rifle scope boxes. Shelves are just plain empty at Ace, and other sporting good stores are stocking a lot of fishing gear.

On another note, J&G Sales ammo, while pricy, is still very limited. 380 acp is about nil, same with other calibers.
If ammo is coming back, then I will be convinced when its more available over all.

I'm seeing ammo coming in in the part of Texas I live in a few of the local GS actually are able to keep it on the shelf's prices are a little elevated but I picked up 250rounds of 10mm for 27$ a box the common stuff don't sit too long 9mm 223 40 38 but its coming regularly now. About the only place I have been able to get primers locally is Cabela's picked up a few k in the last month, as far as powder have not had too much of a problem watching PW Midsouth.
