Ruger Guns Please Help

For concealed carry, my LCP has been a longtime companion. Typically these days I prefer to carry something a lil bigger but for 10 years, because of where I worked I couldn't take the chance that bending down or reaching up and exposing a CCW in my waist so pocket carry was the only option and the LCP went everywhere. It has never jammed from day one. It cycles every kind of ammo I've ever put to it and I trust it. .380acp is not my favorite defensive cartridge, but the LCP is my favorite .380acp.

Their #1 Rifle has set some standard over the years. Been around since 1967 and still manufactured.

Single shot in a wide variety of calibers.

I highly recommend any of the Ruger single action revolvers. As noted some have a second cylinder to increase options. .22-.22 MAG, 38-357-9MM, 45 colt-45 ACP. I own at least one in every caliber except 41 MAG for some reason. I like they are made in stainless steel as well. Also have several Ruger pistols in multiple calibers and think the MK II in stainless steel is the best value these days but will have to buy used as they are discontinued. Also own several 1022's as well and those are one of the most able to be tricked out rifles after the AR platform IMO. Yeah I know some help we are eh.

I have more Ruger guns than any other brand; Rimfire pistols, centerfire pistols, SA and DA centerfire revolvers, a couple of 10-22’s, a M-77 rifle, Red Label 28 ga shotgun...

They have been reliable and well built guns. Not always the most accurate, not always the finest finished, but I really haven’t ever gone wrong with one.

What do you like?
Aside from shotguns (currently, I think they used to offer some?) Ruger makes everything.
If you only get one, and don't have a favorite already, I'd suggest the Mark series pistols for .22. Pick a flavor.
I'm partial to the slab-sided barrels on the Competition series, but like the 22/45 grips. Shame, if they offered one with both, I'd have a new Mark 4. Still love my 6" Mark 3 22/45, though.
Like the style like Glocks? The SR9c is what I carry. The newer Max-9, or the Security 9 or American are close.
When I can't carry a holster, I tuck an LCP in my pocket.
Considered a Wrangler today, but saved the money. Just haven't owned a single-action revolver yet.
So on, so forth.

I really like my Ruger Mark IV Standard with the six inch barrel. I gave my Dad a P89 for a birthday gift years ago and it's a tank.

I had a 6" gp 100 357 mag. Was an interesting pistol. Double action external hammer, but a striker actually hit the firing pin. I had a Smith 6"586 dcm at the same time, accuracy wise they were similar. I liked the Smith better and carried it more often.

I've shot, and Almost bought a ruger blackhawk 357 with a 9mm cylinder but was on unemployment due to covid and couldn't justify the purchase, kicking my own butt for not pulling the trigger.

Actually not a bad pick IMO; I see RGR's dividend yield is north of four percent. I looked at the rest of the data and it looks interesting. I prefer to pick up a new position when it's undervalued and RGR is not, but I'll think about it, anyway ...

Oh boy what one to buy? Good question. I have one Ruger rifle a 10/22 wood stock. Great plinker. 4 revolvers 22lr/mag single six was my latest purchase. I also have a GP 100 357 ,Black hawk 10 mm with the 40 sw cylinder too. And a SBH. All great wheel guns. An sr9 and 40. And a 22/45 target and a MK3 and 4 22/45 tragets. And even a Ruger impact max pellet rifle. And i like them all very much. I know im helping you choose. Ops forgot about my P345 and P95.

I think my present count is nearing 20. Ruger Mk2, Security Sixes, bunch of Blackhawks, 10-22s, 77s, ROA. None have given me anything but satisfaction. Take a pick, you can't go wrong. Out of fifty in my life, only one wouldn't group and Ruger fixed that.

10/22s, Ruger Mk series, GP100 357 mag, Blackhawk 45 Colt, LCP 380 ACP, SR1911 45 ACP, Single 7 in 327 Mag, older generation PC9 carbine. These I have.
I had a Mini-14, didn't really care for it. I'm more of an AR guy.
Wouldn't mind one of the Ruger American rifles. Or, the Blackhawk in 30 Carbine, and the new version of the carbine with Glock mags.
Ruger's are good to go in my book.

I only have a couple, a GP-100 6” 357, SR9C, and an SR22. They have all performed exactly as they should, have been exceptionally accurate, and have had no failures. I have had a few others in the past and only sold them to profit and get something else. None of them had any issues either, I just wanted something different at the time.

If it's a revolver you want, I recommend an SP101. Built like a brick outhouse and nice to look at too. If I were buying now, I'd get a .38 with a 2" barrel, but that's because I already have a 3" .327 Federal. Magnum.

GP100- solid value, in a DA wheelgun, .357. Very solidly built.
Ruger Vaquero-solid value, in a SA build, .357 Reasonable recoil, in a SA.
Ruger 10/22 Take Down model. A very nice, compact 2-piece rifle which is very accurate, easy to assemble and break down, simple to clean.
Comes with a very rugged Ballistic Nylon case included, which has generous storage for mags ammo, and accessories.
M77 Bolt Action Rifle. My M77-MKII is a go-to hunting rifle. Comes in a variety of popular hunting calibers.
Any of the old P-series auto-loaders. A little heavy. But they point well, and they are built like a tank.
Any off the MK series pistols, MKI, MKII,MKIII, or MK4. I highly recommend the 7"bull barrels. A great starter pistol, in 22LR

About the only firearm Ruger makes which I have issues with is the Mini-14. I really wanted it to be another fine Ruger product, but mine has
been haunted with accuracy and cycling issues since the day I got it.

Mini in 300 Blackout

Worth considering:
LCR-great trigger, light weight
SR22- DA/SA, second strike ability, extensions to up capacity to 15rds are availabel, good ergos, reliable
Blackhawk- classic and still one of the best made single action revolvers made today in a variety of calibers
Charger 10/22- accurate, small, light, uses 10/22 mags. Get a brace for it while they're still legal.

Stay away:
SP101- bad, heavy triggers, bad ergos, terrible sights on the short barrel models, grips are meh
LC9 (original, not the LC9s)- horrible trigger
Mini-14- Obsolete and not worth more than what entry level AR's cost
American pistol- far better choices for a striker fired polymer pistol today, will never become popular given the competition and thus won't be produced by Ruger for that long.

I would put the Max-9 into worth considering, but it's too new and after Charter Arms and the Professional, I don't care to bother with being a guinea pig when it comes to new guns anymore. Wait a year and see what others are saying is the general rule and one that I'm going to be sticking to from now on.

It's a company that consistently makes quality stuff. What's not to love?

No revolver? 4-inch GP100. Then an inexpensive reloading kit and load it mild to wild.

One of each is a good start.

The classic Mark IV and then another with the .45 Auto grip.
A Single Six with Magnum cylinder?
A super Redhawk and a Super Blackhawk to cover all bases.
A bolt gun or several.
How can you live without several 1022s to modify and fool around with?
The new Marlins that should start rolling out any day now.

No, the list is too long, just pick up the catalog and order one of each, or two or three.

Their 22 target pistol, the 10-22, the Blackhawk, the Redhawk and their #1 are all classics and good solid guns. Their bolt actions seem to be hit or mis, accuracy wise.

If these have been mentioned, I didn't see them...

1) Ruger Wrangler SA (peacemaker-style) revolver in .22 LR. Probably the greatest value-for-your money Ruger sells today. Ruger figured out how to produce a truly great, fun SA sixgun in .22 using the same proven lock design used in their expensive centerfire SA revolvers for about 200 bucks! Buy one in all-black and you won't be dis-appointed! You can even fan the thing like a gunslinger! And for practical uses, it will shoot any length of .22 and even shotshell if you say, had to go after an attic "critter" (wear safety glasses).

2) Ruger PC Carbine Ruger updated a prior concept and made a 9mm patrol carbine that takes Glock or Ruger mags. It is heavy-for-size but compact, super rugged, takes down into two parts for easy transport and will take oodles of 'dress up' accessories! In ANY role.../ 3 gun pistol carbine for competition, trainer, urban/survival defense weapon, and best-buddy trunk gun for the Glock on your hip! One wise observer called it "The 10/22 for grown-ups" and it surely is. 5-600 bucks on a fair day.


I also like my Ruger Mk II with plain Jane standard everything; it is a classy, classic .22 that holds together tightly and makes you smile. When the LGS had got a nice "low miles" one in from an estate I said I wanted it before hearing the price....paid 350.

And again....the 10/22. I have had mine now since I was 14 (1985). It will have a purpose in my life until I gone. After many, many rounds I did change the small springs out...but it will run dirty for years and years and need almost no love. Or, you can "hot rod" it up and drive tacks.

Lots of good choices, happy with the Rugers I own. (10/22 and PC carbine, Mini 14)
If you just want a Ruger to have a Ruger with out a need or a specific want (like I want a revolver or a .22) then I would say a 10/22.

i have to agree with a couple other posts about the Wrangler it looks like a good entry level .22 S.A. pistol I am seriously conemplating getting one , but i already have a couple Heritage Rough Riders so its hard to justify another right now , but , if I get in some over time , ...
