What is this one of a kind mini14 found at an estate sale?!

Can anyone help me? Have found very little information and have no clue what it is or what it's worth. Looks very alien to me, do any of you guys have any idea what it is? It's a 1977 mini14 but not like anything I've ever seen before aside from seeing a magazine cover with something similar. Is it a mannlicher stock?

This came from an estate of a man who had extremely expensive tastes, and I really wish I could pick his brain over this one as I am absolutely floored by this stock and work. I work on a boat 2 weeks on, and 2 weeks off, so will need to wait a week or so until I am able to look at this in person. I bought it sight unseen (in real life) as well as a few others from his widow. I am unsure if I will like it or not but am definitely interested in any or all information about it.

When home, I will see if I can get more information for you guys. I have never owned a mini 14 before and am not well versed with them at all.


All I know is that the widow said it was a 1977 and that it appears to have never been fired.

That would be neat. Without paperwork I doubt I could say that it was done by them. I will look into them for more information though!


I will probably end up putting it on an auction site but will handle In real life before making that decision

I sent a message to Bain and David gun shop on Facebook not intending to get a response as they looked inactive for a few years but got a timely response. They said that it looked like one of their custom mini14 conversions built by a man by the name of Walter "Red" Little. He made these from the 1970s until the 1990s.

He said that while prices varied, the last ones Red made were around 1500$ plus the customer produced the rifle. The barrel was stock, and gas system was streamlined to fit the Mannlicher like stock. He said that every rifle he'd ever seen before this one has been checkered so the buyer must have specifically asked for it not to have been checkered and that Red usually put a front sight on. He asked for the customer's name and that's where the story ends as of now.

Figured I'd update this for you guys.
