So I ordered a barrel from Whitacre’s Machine Shop and USPS delivered it to the wrong address. Has anyone else had this happen? Does anyone know how much Mr Whitacre insures his packages for? Also were you provided a tracking number after your package was sent?

Yes, I was finally able to get the tracking number after I had not received the package after two weeks. I contacted USPS after finding out it was delivered to the wrong address. Currently trying to find out from the seller, the amount it was insured.

Curious if anyone else has had anything similar happened?

Yes last Tuesday my package was delivered to a postal locker. I have no postal locker. After hours online I gave up. A different package on Wednesday was delivered to my house and I got that one.

I’m in a tough situation, so I’ve got to wait until USPS figures out where they delivered the gun barrel. Then hopefully I can proceed to the next step.

I've had problems with all of the major carriers at our house the past year or so. Service has really declined it seems. Fortunately everything has turned up eventually for me. Are you able to find out exactly where your package was delivered to? It's possible whoever received it is holding on to it on the chance you'll stop by to pick it up. If it's close by you could try that. Around here if packages get delivered to the wrong house, the neighbors will take it to where it belongs. Good neighborhood.

The USPS has been declining since the 80's, maybe before. Frankly it's time to for the Feds to get out of the package/mail delivery business. The only real reason they are still in it is junk mail. None of the private services would touch it for what the USPS does. Which is one of the reasons they are loosing money.

There efficiency to toast. I've gone as long as three days without delivery. By this I mean no on on my block received mail. I ask. But I've had several times where I've gotten two deliveries in a day and once three. I also had a Sunday delivery. Now this isn't packages I'm talking about. It's regular mail.

I finally got frustrated and contacted the local (temporary) post master. She tried to deny it at first, but when I offered to show here the video she shut up. Things got better for a bit but they are starting to seriously backslide. Mind you this is some small podunk town in the sticks. It's in Los Angeles County.

I have noticed that the USPS seems to do much better with Amazon deliveries. I suppose Amazon pays better.

Ha I just got refunded on 2 separate Amazon purchases that disappeared with USPS.

I have been in the same situation as the OP with some sneakers... that never did get resolved.

I don't remember who the carrier was, but a substitute driver left my Forster Co-Ax on a neighbor's front porch a block-and-a-half away, despite the fact that it was shipped with signature required. Neighbor and I share the same street name but his is "Drive" and mine is "Court." All the house numbers on "Drive" are odd, and all the numbers on "Court" are even. That, of course, was by design of the developer, who no doubt figured it would cut down on confusion. Didn't work for the substitute driver. :scrutiny: Fortunately, my neighbor realized the error and lugged the box over to my place. By that time, I'd already called the carrier to ask where my "delivered" package was. They attributed the error to the substitute driver.

Ah the old "substitute driver" excuse. UPS used that one on me once recently when I had a package marked as delivered, yet it was not. What's great is I was actually in my front yard with my family when I got the notification on my phone that it was delivered, and there was no big brown truck to be found, so color me surprised. I called UPS right away and told them what happened, that I had been outside all afternoon and never saw a truck, and got the "we'll open an investigation" spiel. The next day a neighbor from one street over brought the box to my house (it was on the larger side) and said he found it in the middle of the street! ***? So I called UPS back and told them what happened, and asked why the hell my box was dumped in the middle of the road, and why was it marked delivered when it should be obvious to the driver it was not, and then they gave me the same substitute driver excuse.

I wish they would just own it and say sorry the driver was a dishonest a-hole, we'll make sure it doesn't happen again. We need more competition in the delivery service industry to force the big 3 to provide better service, or lose customers and money.

JMHO- I'd get an investigation going
with the postal inspector.
It's never done me any good, but at
least there was paper on it.
If I was responsible for a package that
had an extensive paper trail and photos
of the package's journey, and it got
seriously disappeared on my watch,
they'd walk me to the door.
( yes- they have photos of a packages
arrival at the various postal facilities)

I’ve contacted someone at the post office, they said they’ll look into in. I was told that the GPS is not showing and someone will get back to me by phone. My concern is how much the package was insured for. 420 dollars is a good bit of money to me.

I’m not certain of any homes that have my similar address or street number. From what friends have told me the USPS will try too, go to the address it was delivered. If I knew, I would go and asked the home owner. I had a package last week marked, [return to post office by customer request] so I’m assuming this is where they are misdelivering my mail to. As I never requested this, nor was anyone at my home to request.

The USPS lost an air rifle I purchased from Midway. I got the shipping notice and to this day the package has never been delivered. Midway sent me a replacement without question. The replacement was shipped UPS.

I had two Christmas gifts I ordered over the Thanksgiving holidays and they finally arrived in mid-January. I’ve started paying the premium for UPS if it’s something critical.

At least a few times every year I end up walking mail or packages to close neighbors after it was dropped at my door (or into my mailbox) in error. Package deliveries are slightly better than mail, but both have problems down here in south Florida...

I had it happen with FedEx. Status was “delivered”, I wasn’t trying to argue that fact, just the fact that it was not delivered to my address. I had images of every vehicle that came on our property to back up the fact it was not delivered to our address. Even had an image of one of their trucks passing by on the public road where our drive terminates at a time well off the “delivered” time.

Several weeks of dealing with them and the place I ordered it from was going nowhere fast, when one day an older than me fellow comes to my door and says he got a package that he thought was a PTO shaft for his tractor but when he had opened it up that morning he knew that the AR upper wasn’t it and came right over with it.

I was about to call and dispute the charges with the credit card (only reason I still have one) and wash my hands of the entire situation. After he left I wished I had done more than a “Thank you so much for your time and troubles!” for the fellow that brought it by.

I've had several shipments from Midway get delayed a couple weeks shipping by the USPS. Learned my lesson and have them ship UPS from now on.

At least with Amazon when it's sent via their own delivery service, they take a picture of the package on the porch and it gets sent in an email saying it was delivered. Gives the delivery person more incentive to make sure it goes to the right address.

U S P S....ah yes...that struggling government mail and package service. No matter what they charge, they somehow are always losing money. I subscribe to the informed delivery. I've been told that I'm going to receive a package the next day when it hasn't even been shipped yet. A perfect example of the right hand unaware of what the left hand is doing.

Even a picture is no guarantee. My wife ordered something from Amazon, got email saying it was delivered, along with a picture. Nope, not our porch. I’ve had FEDEX/UPS show package delivered. Nope, but shows up a day or two later. Doesn’t worry me much if it’s just parts, but gets me worried on the very rare occasions when I’m expecting a complete firearm.

I worked nights as a contract worker for USPS while I was getting my Associate's Degree.
I learned not to put anything important through the mail.
Little things like having a trophy fish sent from Finland to a taxidermist that went through our hands - three times.
Or the loads of weapons sent to Anniston Army Depot for decommissioning that were dribbling parts or were already crushed and empty.
Or the old mail bags that had been in storage since the 1940s that were still full of VMail sent by soldiers stationed overseas.
Or the containers being sent to the Center for Disease Control that arrived damaged - and leaking on other packages... .

A few years ago I sold a Ruger #1 on GB. The buyer's address was in the pacific NW and the tracking # said it was delivered to someone in Illinois near south Chicago! Signed for, no less!!
After alerting BATF, the local sheriff's department and the local Illinois PD about a possible missing firearm in the greater Chicago Metro Area, an FFL in the PNW called me for some additional documentation on the rifle he received and to confirm the buyer's name and address. (I had misspelled his name...DOH!) :uhoh:
Turns out the label from the rifle I had shipped had somehow got transferred onto a different package that went to Illinois! Dang!! Unravelling that hornet's nest I stirred up was interesting!!! :cuss::cuss::cuss:

This is what worries me. Hence why I’m trying to get as much evidence to support it was delivered to the wrong address. Like others have said, I will request anything valuable be sent by another parcel service. Or see if I can get it to be held at the post office or something.

My main concern is USPS will dismiss or have an excuse and I’m left holding the bag. Hopefully the person will show up with the package, but it’s going on almost 2 weeks now so odds are unlikely.

Never had something mis-delivered on our route by USPS. Then it helps that my mailman (yes he is) is a 2nd supporter and obviously from my mail I shoot. HOWEVER, getting things from point A to my route seems to be a challenge for USPS. I tracked one package that literally took a week to get from one side of ATL to the other.

UPS and FedEX however mis-deliver frequently. I too have a picture of one of my packages in front of the wrong door. Doesn't help the house next door isn't occupied. I've taken to checking there weekly, because it's not just my packages they leave there.
