Hey there ar-10 community. I want to buy or build a new ar-10 in 308. I'm pretty new to the ar game but I joined this website to answer questions so here we are. I want:

Less than 8 pounds
Sub moa 5 shot groups
308
Less than $2000 if possible, but $2500 is my absolute max
I would prefer it to be a side charging ar10 but, that is not a make or break thing
Adjustable comb
Meant for deer hunting

I don't know if I can do this for sure, but I want to know how to get this "dream gun".

Thanks in advance for any help

Buy the Larue lower as well... or have them assemble it.

Remember... the Large Frame AR has NO Mil-Spec guidelines... so not all parts interchange as readily as a AR15.( Actually FAR from it )

So stay with a LPK, Upper and Lower from the same manufacturer.

There are 2 "dominate" patterns "DPMS" and "Armalite". Between those 2, uppers and lowers do not interchange, barrel threads are different, mag patterns can be different, ... even the connecting pins can vary in the patterns.... So decide which one you prefer and do your research.

And be prepared to wait.

Edited to add... Large Frame AR's take more focus to shoot well... so don't be surprised if it takes time and ammo to get tiny groups.

Is there any chance that the DPMS Gen 2 style might resume production? Or is anyone making them now?

That price point MIGHT be a challenge in the current market. Just difficult to find anything right now, and not much can be found at “normal” pricing. In “normal” markets, the $2000-2500 ballpark is reasonable. I wouldn’t say it’s reasonable to get it done well if quality optics are included in that price. Might be difficult to get done with a side-charger right now.

8lbs can be a challenge for an LFAR, especially if you want optics included in that weight.

Building a 1moa or slightly sub-MOA LFAR isn’t terribly challenging. Good trigger, good barrel, free float tube, a familiar shooter, and appropriate ammo. Not surplus ball crap.

Personally, I’d build. But I do a bunch every year; to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I should clarify, optics are not included with this rifle at all with those requirements.

Unless you can get your hands on a used DMPS Gen II, it's going to be hard find a manufactured LFAR in that weight range. I did quite a bit of research in building a Aero M5 a number of years ago, and at that point in time it required significant research to build something < 9 lbs. prior to optics.
