I'm pretty sure this is a case issue but not certain, so would like some input. I loaded up some 9mm with CBC cases and the the bullet is bulging from the case. I was using sierra sports master 125grs bullets and went to the range and 1 round got stuck in the chamber. Got home and not only was the bullet bulging, it seemed it went in crooked, hence jammed in the chamber.

I measured the bullets and the specs were correct, oal was correct and tested by using hornady 124gr xtp and the same bulge appeared. I do have other cases loaded with different head stamps and either there is no bulge or very slight one. The pic below are with the hornady bullet. 2 are upside down to get a better view of the bulge but doesn't really show the amount of the bulge in them. These chambered fine and pass the plunk test. In any event these cases are going in the last resort pile. Thanks in advance. 20210507_102044.jpg 20210507_102032.jpg 20210507_102010.jpg

That "wasp-waist" means your sizing die is under-size tapering the case. Check the case OD's from base to rim in 0.010" increments and record them. Do the same with a factory round. You will be able to see where the cases are not consistent.

As long as they're in spec' you're fine but if they are under size and it is causing issues, try a different sizing die and see if it improves.

As for your jam, you may want to flare (or bell) the case mouth a little more to help seat the bullet. You would be surprised how finnicky some 9mm cases or guns can be. When doing your plunk test make sure the case is dropping all the way down. If it high by a hair or by the thickness of a piece of paper, or maybe the rim is just barely a little high, then you have a problem case. I use a Lyman case gauge and do find an occasional high rimmed case, usually 1 in 50 using range pick-ups. My XDM shoots just about anything, but my son's Model 19 is real touchey.

Yep, common. Thick walled case, tight resize, larger diameter bullet (over "normal" .355") will all cause a wasp waist handload. Plunk test and 'choot 'em...

Case wall thickness on CBC runs just under 0.014". That's more than I like so just trash them along with IMT, FM, Maxxtech, Aguila etc.

Thanks guys for all the great advice, since I'm only having this issue with the CBC cases, I'm gonna put them in the last resort bin. Going forward I'm gonna be a little more diligent checking cases.

I've found its useful to have several sizing dies for 9mm and .45ACP. Not all brass is the same. Some 9mm dies are tighter than others on the tapering. .45ACP is a straight-walled case but some dies reach the base better than others. I have full sets of both Hornady and Lee dies, plus RCBS for those two chamberings, for just about everything that runs in a self-loading mechanism. Oh, and I have THREE full sets for .30-06 - neck size only, full-length size for a standard spec' chamber and full-length size for a tight spec' chamber. They're all plain-Jane, not special order, boxed dies but they "run" tight or loose.

Throw brass away!!!??? Good grief, sir, you about gave me a case of the vapors! :what::eek:

Those are unusually bulged. Look inside the cases and make sure they aren't stepped cases. If not, that is a seriously tight sizer.

Those brands and numerous others including NATO are culled by me after cleaning, then saved for future give-away on this site.

So, took some of everyone advice and checked 5 other brands (headstamps) cases and tried to determine if it's my dies and none of them produced this issue. The expander ball only bulged the CBC case. Bullets went in smooth and no bulge. Wall thickness on the CBC ran approx. .002-.003 thicker then all the other 5. Never had this issue until I added different brands, I usually stayed with 1 or 2 brands but with this shortage I decided to grab as many cases as I can. So, CBC cases will be put aside in the last resort pile.
