Good storage vault/cabinet for guns

I'm looking for a good locking cabinet or vault for some guns. Not really looking to spend $1000-$2000. More so looking for a lockable container just to contain some guns. Doesnt have to be fire rated, 1000lbs or anything like that. Wondering what some of you guys might be using that don't resort to the massive liberty and cannon safes. Trust me I'd love one but I don't have that kind of dough for that right now. I have a 10gun vault and I've run out of room. Looking for something that could hold 12-15 long guns. Any ideas? Anybody build their own? Just kicking ideas around. Thought about financing a nice big vault but idk. I think for now I could get by with something simpler, just enough to stop a theif from a quick grab....
 
Years ago I used the stack-on locking cabinet, think at the time I spent $150ish. That was fine until my apartment was broken into. It was more than a minor inconvenience for the perpetrators, but still yielded them two handguns. I do have a liberty now, not the big mamma jamma, but configured properly it could hold 16 long guns. I was fortunate, I didn't have the cash for one either, but picked up a floor model for something like $350. This was all about 10yrs ago. Something like this would probably be the minimum I'd be comfortable with

Academy has the 64 gun Cannon on sale for like $599 from time to time. Actually right now but I can’t find it in stock. It’s under your price. And at 465lbs it’s under your weight limit too. #Winning! Also, Tractor Supply has safes on sale all the time. LYou may not need that much safe. But if your 10 gun is full, I’d get at least a 30 gun. Maybe even 40.

I do like gun cabinets. The problem is they don’t protect against anything. And they are cheaply made. A nice mahogany cabinet will cost you as much as a nice safe. If I’m going to display firearms, I just display them. But that’s your call. You might check Facebook marketplace.
 
I would wait for a sale at Bass Pro for a deal on their bottom tier “safes”. I think these are great for a storage solution that adds a formidable level of security over even a locked cabinet.

I remember the 12 gun Cabelas being on sale for 299 once last year. I would buy two of those or the 20-24 gun that sells for around 599.

Bought a Winchester (Rural King brand) 24 gun safe for $500

Yup these are better by a long shot. Try government auctions of used safes, you can find commercial grade safes for less than a new cheaply made gun safe.
Old steel lockers work if you're only stopping young kids from being curious. Of course padlocks are cheap and a Youtube video shows anyone how to open them. Here I'll have to put a disclaimer since someone will argue anything, there are some padlocks that are difficult to defeat and cost more than what you normally find in big box stores. Of course no statement covers everything but people are bored and look for loopholes.
 
I have a buddy that works at an electrical contractor & he did a job that required that some big electrical switch boxes be removed for smaller boxes(everything is getting smaller these days). So he brought home some big 5'x4'x 18" deep lockable thick steel cabinets. He gave me one for helping him carry them to his truck, I striped out the electrical stuff & put in shelves & used thin carpet to cover the whole inside.
Now it makes a great gun cabinet.

12-15 long guns? If they have scopes double that required space. If they have things like pistol grips, add another 50%. Basically, if you have 12-15 ARs with scopes, you'll need something to hold 36-45 long guns. Safe maker capacities are VERY optimistic on their part

Out of sight out of mind:thumbup: is an arguable second to having it securely mounted and in such a way a to queer the usual prying techniques and tools.

The single best dollars one can spend on motorcycle anti-theft is a simple cover.

Stack-On Security Containers as far as simple security cabinets go work as well as about anything else in a similar price point and security goes. I know several people who have used them and bolted them to walls, floors and about anything else. Also, as mentioned, there are other brand names similar. Just a matter of finding something in your price point range that affords what you are after.

I have used a number of Stack-on RSCs to hold my many milsurps. They are firmly attached to the floor, walls and each other. Most are wired for electricity and are attached to my security system using internal motion detectors and mercury switches.
 
As others have said, take the manufacturer capacity number with an enormous grain of salt.

I got a Gettysburg (Rural King's house brand for gun stuff) 14 gun safe for around $249 four years ago. It's by no means a true "safe" but it's definitely beefier than your standard gun cabinet, especially the door. I had to fanangle the arrangement of my long guns to fit 6 of them in there. That's 5 scoped rifles (one an AR) and a shotgun. I do have 7 handguns on the top shelf, so I guess if you count those it was almost accurate. :D I think the suggestion of cutting the advertised capacity in half is probably pretty accurate.

Don't know if you have a Rural King around your parts, but this cabinet they have might fit the bill.

Filing cabinets are cheap and easy. You can retrofit to taste. They store pistols and ammo really well, with no cutting or grinding, at all.
And, with a little finesse, they just look like a filing cabinet.
Tractor supply has some nice "safes", that cost about the same a filing cabinet.

Also consider putting a false wall in a deep closet. Then, instead of locking the "safe", just fill the closet, with clothes, and stuff.

These work great, new guns can be laid horizontally in their original boxes.
