Maybe not the best time to shop for guns across the US..

But hell the times pick us, we do not pick the times..

But can anyone recomend some good gun shops across the country along highway I-10

Looking for more Older then new guns.. More Surplus then commercial.. But cool looking trumps all.

Thanks

Collector's Firearms in Houston is aust stop location.
Collectors has just about anything you could want, but it is not located on I-10. Its actually about half way between I-10 and 59. A gunstore on I-10 in Houston is Carter's Country. Its not Collectors Firearms by any means but they are well equipped. I think there are a couple of smaller gunstores located in the smaller shopping centers (strip centers) along I-10, but I don't remember their names.

If you are driving through San Antonio, a small diversion on the 410 Loop to Dury's is worth it. Not cheap but nice folks. Sometimes they have a used gem.

The other major SA gun store is a touch nasty.

Over the years, I've bought guns from both Carter's on I-10 and Collectors Firearms when they were on Richmond, and even once at their new location on Westheimer (which is a much bigger and nicer place).

What I like about Collectors is that it's a gun museum where everything in the museum is for sale. Of course, they sell new stuff too, just like Carter's does.

If I was an out-of-towner that wants to look at classics and antiques (plus new), Collectors Firearms is definitely worth driving the 4 miles due south of Carters.

Look for old school well established gun shops.

Quite often they have much more interesting stuff, and usually at much better prices, than the dime a dozen pop-up strip mall tacticool spots.

Thanks, that sounds like I may have to spend some time in some county court house halls of records to find the opening dates of those businesses to do that.. I may not have the time this trip.. But will keep it in mind for future trips.

Which one? Adlebridge or Nagels. They’re both by the airport. Adlebridge just moved into the old Pier One by the mall. Nagels has a lot of random stuff. Never bought a gun there though but did get a knife that was discontinued years back to replace one I lost. They’ve got a lot of weird old stock and the back room has things I’m not sure they even know are there. They weren’t very pleasant a few weeks back when I went in to look through the vintage mystery pile.

Adlebridge has the cats. So expect things to be pre-loaded with fur. Pre COVID I would drop by to look when I was in the neighborhood. I didn’t go by for a while and then they moved. The new building is nicer but I was glad I was wearing a face mask when I saw their ammo so no one could see my jaw drop. They had everything you could imagine in stock. Mostly because a brick of Aguila super extra 22 or was priced at $140.

I'll speak of positives. My omission speaks for itself. There are some modern gun ranges with shops on 1604 on the North side with standard modern guns at close to MSRP. Nardis is just off I-10 on the East side. Nice range, standard modern stuff at MSRP close prices.

I'm not one for good ol' boy full of posturing stores.

By omission, one of those type of stores was near work. So I stop in and see a soldier wanting to buy a Beretta 9mm to duplicate his service arm for practice. Well, the price is full MSRP and you could get the same gun at Academy about 5 minutes up the road for $100 less. Think they would give a soldier a break - fat chance.

Thats kinda makes it easy for me, the guns I buy have not had a MSRP for years..

Carter's Country is the last gun store or gun range I would recommend to anyone. Bill Carter tried his best to shut down gun shows in Houston as well as advocating that internet sales should be prohibited.

What part of I-10? It DOES go for a few 1000 miles

Near Midway in Florida (just west of Tallahassee) is Talon - they have a separate retail store and an outdoor shooting facility with trap/skeet, sporting clays and individual shooting lanes with tall berms - you can see and hear the I-10 traffic. Have bought some nice revolvers on consignment. They also rent guns at the range - everything from AR, shotguns, handguns, etc. https://www.talonrange.com/
They also have a line of holsters badged with their name
Exit 203 (US 319) exit you have Kevin's (2 locations in Thomasville GA and Tallahassee https://kevinsguns.com/
