Have not used Win231 and see conflicting comments regarding metering. With the current situation I would like to avoid wasting money and time if I stumble across some just to find out I cannot get consistent throws from my No55.

Most powders I use I can keep dead on to occasional +/- 0.1 and would like to keep it that way. What is your experience with W231?

Agree with all the above. It's a very small flake - never feel it cut flakes in RCBS or Lee powder measures.

never a problem in the dillon or my 55,as always I tap the hopper to settle it as well as do a dozen dumps to also help settle it in

Good news. I sold my other measures and kept the 55 which was one of the smartest things I've done in a while.... I understand they aren't for everyone.
I have a selection of flaky powder that I will never end up using and I don't particularly need to add to that list. Thanks

I never understood the term metered... Why can’t it be “Measured” or “Dispense” or “Dropped”

Supercalifrag, man. You gotta have New Terminology.
When I came up in reloading, you either "weighed" or "measured" powder, maybe "trickled".
Later you could buy a "dispenser" that would do the weighing for you.
I can handle "metered" but using "dispenser" for "measure" is kind of annoying.

Measuring is a one-time operation, while metering usually means measuring or keeping track of some quantity either continuously or periodically (ea charge).

It's all too familiar ruffling some *******'s feathers hiding behind the anonymity of a keyboard, so I do my best to to keep questions and meaning understandable and accurate.

I vote for “Pour”

“W231 does not pour well in my drop”

W231 'pours' very well from my Redding 10X, always within .1 grain.

Highly recommended for volumetric processing.

My experience is with its sister powder (brother?) HP-38. Super consistent throws from my Hornady dispenser and my FA Intellidropper. It’s one of the few powders I’ll use without concern from my powder dropper as opposed to my electronic dispenser. For what it’s worth…my digital score shows less than .02gr difference between throws.

Do you use a powder measure or a powder meter?

Do we weigh powder, scoop, drop, dump, pour or meter it?:uhoh:

Another thumbs up for w231. Very consistent for me using my Hornady powder measure. As stated above, it is a "flattened" ball powder.

FWIW, I get very good results with it in 38spcl, medium 357mag, and 45acp.

I have had good results with it from both Dillon and Lyman 55. I have always been satisfied with +/- .1 variations out of sub $200 measures, though. Some folks - with whom I disagree - think that is indicative of some sort of problem, so take that all for what it is worth.

I used quite a lot of W231/Hp-38 for my 38 Specials. W231 metered quite well. I often held variation to less than 1 grain with my Lee PPM for light 38 loads...
