I got one, the Waterfowl Magnum version , it was crazy cheap because the former deceased owner had the barrel cut o 20" and the space between them filled with hot lead and the end plug nicely finished. They are rated for 105 grains of powder with 2 .0z of shot . I shoot mine with 15 .31 balls and 90 grains of FFG Goex with a thick felt wad over powder and a thin over ball felt wad and a thin card board top wad. That load holds all the balls in 12" at 25 yard where the barrels seem right on top of each other. It is awesome ! And I have shot steel BBs in a 10 gauge Pattern Driver plastic wad with a card over shot wad that seems it would do ducks, turkey or Rabbits at that range or a little more nicely , and legally in Calif. all steel mandate. 6 Steel in pattern driver for quail ect within 30 yards. All with a very kewl Coach gun !
You know they have chrome lined barrels , right ? easiest cleaning BP gun ever ! I Love mine !

Great info. Do they all come with standard chokes? I heard that one is usually cylinder bore and the other improved cylinder.

I have one in 12 ga. choked full/mod. Funnest shotgun I have ever had.
I think it most are cyl/mod or cyl/imp.cyl. Some had choke tubes.
Shooting paper is the only way to really know.

I've always loaded shotgun with powder, a .125 over powder hard card, then a cushion wad of some type cushion wad, say felt or soft fiber, shot, and the .028 OS card last. I normally put the cushion wad in my mouth so it's soaked with spit and will help clean the bore when pushed down.

I have used plastic wads, WAA12 or whatever I grabbed off the reloading bench. They work fine. Most of the time I use a .125 wad over the powder, then a cork or fiber wad, sometimes with Bore Butter and sometimes not. It does not seem to make any difference, maybe with a very high number of shots it would. I use another .125 card over the shot.
My gun being choked full/mod, I am usually trying to open the pattern up. If it were straight cylinder/imp cyl, I might experiment more with plastic wads to tighten the pattern, depending on what I was hunting.

A plastic shot cup inserted into a paper tube, made of paper-bag-paper, works very well. That fits perfect in my Brown Bess, which is an 11 gauge.

I have a 12 gauge double. I use about 80 grains of 2F then a powder card and lubed cushion wad then an equal amount of shot with 2 over shot cards. I've also used a patched round ball but never perfected it.

Just my 2 cents worth, but I believe you guys using plastic wads are asking for trouble down the road. BP melts plastic, and that plastic melted in the barrel can trap BP fouling under it. Plastic wads are NOT allowed on the National Muzzle Loading range for that reason. For a shot or two you won't even notice it down at the bottom of your barrel. But it's there with burnt BP under it.. Years back at my club on sight in day before deer season some guys would always show up with their new inline MLing rifles, Pyrodex or BP, and those bullets inside a plastic wad. Think they're called sabots, or something like that. After 5 or 6 shots they couldn't get the sabot down the barrel. Didn't know why. Us older hands told them it was plastic build up from their bullets and the gun had to be cleaned. Couple of passes with a brush and cleaning patch and they were good to go. I go to modern SxS Shoots and sometimes shoot BP shells. All of us have always used fiber wads. My one friend years earlier went to a shoot and shot BP with plastic wads. He claimed after a 100 shots the plastic was sticking out the end of his barrels like wiggly earth worms. He said it took him over and hour to clean both barrels of melted plastic. Fiber wads have always worked with BP and even with nitro powders. If you're gonna use plastic, do yourself a favor and clean the gun good when done. Happy shooting. Paul

True, but if you wrap the plastic wad in paper, (either sammich bag, or grocery bag) and close the end over the base, the plastic will not contact the barrel, and the base will not be exposed to burning powder. I also put a fiber wad over the powder, and under the "shot cartridge'. With my Bess being an 11 gauge, the shot-cup inside of a paper tube is a perfect fit. In a 12, it may be too tight, and perhaps not possible to do that. In a 10 gauge, one could possibly use a 12 gauge shot cup, but the extra wraps of paper my inhibit the breaking up of the paper, and the shot might not spread. I agree, I would never load a bare plastic shot cup in a muzzle loading barrel.

As I stated before, been using plastic Remington power piston wads for years in my old CVA double 12 gauge with no problems whatsoever, shot both doves and quail, limited out several times on dove with no plastic left behind. Maybe it's a different flavor of plastic than what Paul Harm has experienced. I was also told the same thing by one of the older muzzleloaders club members that I used to shoot with.
