Promag. What has been your experience?

Remember, Pmags are good. Promags are bad.
Thats how they stay in biz. I got fooled on 2 AR mags long ago. I foolishly assumed p-mag and pro-mag were the same. Never again.
AR pro-mags suck. Total garbage.

I have 1 Pro mag left. I avoid using it.

The ones for my Mini 30 sucked. Never bought any since then.

Before that's interpreted wrong, Technically if anyone is to blame for that it's magpul. I owned some crappy promag many years before there was a pmag.

They didn't choose a well established (but often defunct) name and use it to make their products sell even though they have absolutely nothing to do with the namesake...... cough ...Henry.... cough cough... Rock island..... cough..... Springfield armory........

... I had a similar SKS / ProMag experience except I was the one who bought the magazine and installed it. And it was only a 5 round mag. 3 years ago I had a wild idea of deer hunting with an SKS because of the ballistic similarities of the the 7.62x39 & .30-30. Needed a 5 round mag to make it legal and found a ProMag. It worked but not reliable enough to go hunting with. Got sick of it after one year and put the original mag back in and that works great. Don't really need another deer rifle anyway. Put the ProMag back in its packaging and there it sits. The 5 round ProMag actually extends further below the stock than the original 10 rounder does. I bought some for a mini 30 once. they did not fit the magwell right, they fell out during use, and they fed poorly. I threw them away after contacting Promag and getting zero response from customer service. I'll never buy another no matter how good some folks claim they are their CS truly sucks, right in line with their QC.

The only ones I ever used were for the Ruger MK 2, they functioned just fine.

90% of the time, garbage.

Surprisingly, no problems with a S&W 39-2; and I tried one based on a recommendation from the S&W forum. So for that model, it appears to be good.

And then, there's the doublestack Makarov; I have one, with only ProMags. The one I bought it with has run great. I dug deep online, found some more for $16 apiece, and they're ok for the price. Understand, a "real" doublestack Makarov mag would cost over $100.

I hesitated to chime in on this thread. But, in the interest of protecting my brothers and sisters, I will say only one word:

Garbage.

Their 10 rd LCP mag runs 100% and the consensus I tend to see is that if it's a single stack mag, the Promags seem to run just fine, it's the doublestacks where things start to fall apart.

They stay in business the same way a casino does - the house wins more often than the gamblers.

My p97dc is single stack. They didn't work well.

The hi- point carbine is single stack and I never got 2 rounds that I know of in a row. I remember that one pretty well because an annoying A hole was dumping on hi point and I said how reliable they were for a cheap gun. I took 4 mags. 2 were hi point and 2 were promag. I couldn't tell which was which and Unfortunately the fit and finish (weld seam/ base plate) is better on the promag so that what I tried to use. Gun was a single shot...... To this day the carbine hasn't failed on the factory mags. Lol

My p220 is single stack. I was given one for it that ran about 50/50. That's the best I've seen from any promag.

Their fit and finish is actually really good. Their weld seams are dressed better than checkmate or mecgar. They simply don't work vast majority of the time. Every review I've ever read on them mirrored my experience

I had one once for my Saiga rifle. Didn't last more than a few hundred rounds. Plastic junk.

No OEM mags were then available ("thanks"... to the late Bill Ruger) for a used Mini 30 which I bought back in 2008.

That's the only reason I bought two Promags for the Mini. They were reliable most of the time.
Having first spent a while reading the Magazine Forum at PerfectUnion, where lots of Mini info is found, I never expected any Promag to be available.

An experienced gun owner should probably know better.

Although my S&W 908 is very seldom carried, I paid a small chunk via " LeftyBay " in January simply to have a single OEM mag for this very nice gun.

I have some for my mini’s. The ten rounders work well enough. Not as good as Ruger ones, but they work. They also rust easier.

I had 3 of them for a Sig 228, never a problem. When I sold that gun for "full retail" I threw them in. I have only factory 228/226 mags now. Bought the ProMags during the AWB 10 year nonsense. Joe

To clarify for those that may not: 'original equipment manufacturer'. Ones made for that gun, by the company that built that gun. Or the supplier for that company.
For instance, I know a lot of 1991s use theirs, or have a supplier make them to spec (or select from that supplier's options) and possibly stamp them with their own logo. And some companies, like CZ, use Mec-Gar.
Which makes vastly superior magazines than Promag, BTW.

Deus Machina: Don't some of 'our' Mec-Gar magazines state "Made in Italy"? I haven't checked in while.

My Mec-Gars and all other OEM mags have been absolutely perfect.

Sidenote: As a former Navy Seal stated in one of his videos, he inserts and then slightly Tugs on each mag to verify that each mag is fully seated and locked.
He claimed that he has had too many mag insertions which didn't quite lock.

I have a couple for Sig P365, 12 rd mags. They’ve worked perfectly in 365 and xl, half cost of OEM. I use them for range.
