And I would still have money left over. But if the OP likes it, and can justify the cost, go for it.
At the 1900ish i was running them they blew impressive exit wounds, but nothing i hit stopped them.Shows what I know. I didn’t even know Nosler made ML bullets. Shame they don’t make them in .452. My 450 might really like them. But I’m also sitting on 650 300gr Speer Deep Curls that I still need to load and test (adulting sucks).
I’ve got plenty of bullets in .458 (350gr Hornady RN) that have never failed me for my 45-70. Do the Noslers stay together pretty well? I haven’t been able to recover one of mine to find out. But I know they make big holes in big pigs.
$80 for a set of dies. That’s ridiculous.
Sounds like this is the guys personal rifle....here's what a naked rifle of similar spec, but minus all the stuff that makes this one cool, sold for.Hummm, so your "buddy" at the pawn shop is going to knock off $218 from a 2016 list price? I regard Wilson Combat as top tier and love mine. Most pawn shops offer about 40-to-60% of the value which he might have $1500-to$-1800 in it....that's being generous. Used glass won't add much. Think I'd pass, if there's an "opportunity".....it appears to be in the pawn shops favor.
@LoonWulf and you are both correct. It is a personal that was taken in on trade and he subsequently purchased it for $200 over trade in. They gave $1800 for it I believe in trade. But it was a bare gun with no ammo, scope, mount, or case. He’s had the gun about a year.Hummm, so your "buddy" at the pawn shop is going to knock off $218 from a 2016 list price? uhh.....whats his number I can always use a "buddy" like that....wait no I don't, cant afford the ones I have.....M70 Extreme Weather 338WM in like new condition for $650, a nice sporterized Krag for $250, a Sporterized 1903 with an omg great trigger for $250, original T/C Hawken (not a kit gun) in great shape for $190, a Kimber Montana 260 with Leupold VxIII like new for $550, and a 1975 Ruger Carbine 44 mag in used but pretty good shape for $400.
Now I feel bad for calling him a buddy.
Just buy it!
$ is decreasing in value while yer' askin' questions!
Congrats to him! Take them a nice baby gift and while your there pick up your new toysWell there’s a new twist to this. Talked to him yesterday. I tried to get him into reloading for the last couple years but for some reason he was hesitant even when he had a guy give him basically an entire reloading setup. Well the rifle deal, unbeknownst to me, also includes a full Hornady I believe, reloading setup (that I don’t need) 458 and a couple other die sets, 3lbs H-110, 2lbs of H-4895, 300 CCI LPMP, and 700 LPP, and various bullets though I’m not sure what they are. I’d ask him about everything in it, but he and his wife just had their second child a few hours ago.
All 4 are absolutely true. And now that I know the reloading setup is included, I think I can sell the press, scales, etc to help negate some of the cost since I already reload. But definitely keep the powder and dies. And while he doesn’t actually need the money because he has 3 jobs (full time firefighter, PT pawnshop, and PT EMT), I know it certainly can’t hurt. So I’m going to do it. I wanted honest answers and you guys didn’t disappoint.Congrats to him and the wife for the new baby.
I'm all over the pace in this question and really not qualified to answer... but since you asked....... and keep in mind that I'm a pretty practical guy but admit I've spent my fair share on things that I just wanted. There is something to be said about the satisfaction of owning what you want even if it isn't practical in the traditional sense.
I wouldn't buy as it doesn't appeal to me and I could find a ton of other things to spend thatuch money on. If I did buy it, id sell it for profit judging by what some others have said the value is.
Having said aaaalllll that......
Given, 1) what some others have said regarding better than good value, 2) it seems you do want it, I think you said 3) a good friend and 4) just had a baby (as opposed to an acquaintance type friend or coworker) ..... if all 4 of those thing are true, Id say pay the $2800 as I couldn't, in good conscious, talk down the price.
In fact, if all 4 were true and I had the disposable cash, I'd probably give him $3000 and tell him congrats on the new baby... and ask him, in a smart-a** way, why he didn't learn his lesson after having the 1st kid.
But that's how me and my really good friends role. We do things like borrow not cheap tools, dont break them, and then maybe buy lunch when retuning tool,,, just because.
If the conditions are right, buy it and have fun.
