Has DA/SA gone out of style?

I'm being told to dump my Sig classics for the far superior striker polymers for ccw and range. Is this good advise?

Who told you? Friends, gun club
acquaintances?

Are they more intelligent than you?
Are they more proficient with their
striker fired guns than you with yours?

How familiar are you with the 1911
single actions as an alterenative?

Perhaps your striker fired advisers are
like people in miserable marriages-----
they would like more to join in their grief.

I’m more accurate with a striker and I finally dumped my 4566 because of DA trigger.

IMHO to shoot a DA/SA one should put a majority of the practice on DA pull and that can be tedious.

Most IDPA shooters attest to this. It appears if not in the striker group, you're a 1911 person; not many TDA people.

Why do you have guns? Are they a fashion statement or tools you have for specific purposes?

Gun games inherently favor certain features in guns. If you participate in such games, by all means consider some guns that maximize the potential to excel in those games.

TDA guns were developed for defensive purposes. If defensive use is among the purposes for which you have guns, TDA may be your best solution.

Yep. I assume you haven’t gotten the memo yet. Apparently TDA firearms are no longer capable of being used for self defense purposes. Apparently some kind of use by date we all missed but alas here we are with all those TDA guns completely useless. I mean what are ya gonna do, milk, eggs, SIG P226’s it all goes bad at some point.

Seriously though you could adequately defend yourself with a cap and ball revolver. A “modern” hammer fired handgun is just as effective as it always has been.

Sigh something something software something more important then hardware.

Also and I hate to break this to you …… .40 caliber……..just bruising people these days and destroying guns left and right. Been found to be 100% useless. Ahh well we persevere.

This, however, I mostly agree with. I have always made sure at least the first shot out of every mag is DA unless I was doing some kind of drill or practical shooting reload. If you are going to own a TDA gun or DA revolver don’t fall into a trap of only shooting single action.

I’m wonder who would make such a statement?

I can’t think of a more reliable and effective self defense handgun than one of SIG Sauers P-220 series guns.

If you like it, shoot it well and can carry it safely... then keep on keepin’ on .

Stay safe.

Certainly is a tiresome but untrue point of view.

"TDA guns were developed for defensive purposes."
I've been told Jeff Cooper felt they were a solution to a non existent problem. Any way, TDAs have features I like, however, it is easier to shoot more accurately with most strikers.

"TDA striker-fired pistol and it shoots very well"--is that a p99 AS?

My friends PPK/S da/sa with a decocker is IMHO is a fantastic CCW. Safe to carry ,DAO is great for an amped up first shot, SA rocks for follow-up shots. That being said, I carry several striker fired guns for economic reasons.

I used them for a long time in the mil (M9, M11). I prefer the striker fired system of operation or SA (1911) because every shot is the same- whether it is the first or the last one in the engagement. Also, no need to decock before reholstering. As a trainer, eliminating the DA presentation shot and decocking process saved us lots of time and trouble for newer pistol users. On the other hand, there are people at the AMU who shoot the M9 better than I could shoot any handgun, so its different for some individuals.

Walther P99 (before they were marked AS because there were no other versions at the time), Smith & Wesson SW99 and Magnum Research MR9 and I have shot Canik's knock-off.
