Semantics do matter.

but I don’t get twisted up when the incorrect word is used, so long as the context can fill in the intended meaning.
Also, I don’t get bent up if I’m corrected.

pro tip;
Wise men listen more and complain less

There is a thing called tact. It's OK if someone chooses to use terms interchangeably, but I'm one of those who thinks it is good for people to be educated about the differences. I will often try to do so with tact, but some will always get offended even though that is not my intent.

This. I've been wrong plenty of times, or made typos.
But I do have to admit, as both a writer and an engineering student, who has been pressed into service providing the technical writing for the engineering society while I was in college, a lot of things irk the snot out of me.
If it's casual conversation and the context clarifies, I'll bite my tongue and go on with my day. But if you're talking in a technical or formal sense, semantics matter.

My son is 45, has been a law enforcement officer for 24 years, and has used the term clip for at least that long. Being a good parent I have "corrected" him many times reminding him that magazine is the correct term. He always responds with "I'll bet you know what I meant." Yes that's true but I still call him on it and he still responds the same way. I roll my eyes and he laughs. I got a feeling he does this on purpose.;)
