Train + Protect 38 Special

I'd love to see the velocity numbers on those. If it's real world +P, then I'd be interested. FBI Loads off the shelf are a little hard to come across.

The price is ridiculous, but in a world of $40/box 9mm Blazers, it is what it is.

Those look like the old Nyclad bullets introduced by Smith & Wesson a few years back. Still have a few and did carry that ammunition when I carried a small bore revolver.

No these are my reloads. Thanks for the compliment. I put my reloads in nice boxes to keep away any range that does no like reloads. The round on the left is Speer 158 SWC-HP Swagged soft lead with a by the book standard pressure 4.7 grains of Unique. Reminded me exactly of what’s in those over priced packages.

I believe this Ammo is a marketing thing more than anything.

They are saying that you just buy the same Ammo for the range and HD/SD. That way you don’t have to stock different Ammo.

It makes sense and things more simple IF it is priced at range Ammo prices and not at a premium; during normal times, current climate notwithstanding.

There's also the advantage of training with the same ammo that you carry; same POI, same recoil etc.

As you rightly point out though, cost is the key, otherwise there would be no such thing as 'range ammo'.

I'd be interested to see what the price of this stuff would typically be in a non-shortage market, and of course how it performs in ballistic gel.

I use 4.2 gr. of Unique for a nice, tame 750fps load but otherwise... yup!

Looks like exactly what I put together on Sunday: 158gr. swaged LSWC-HP (Speer, in my case) over 4.2gr. of Unique for ~750fps out of a 4" Model 15-3. Great practice round I have no doubts would work at close range as protection from vermin, varmint or varlet. ;)

Hows the accuracy, been thinking about lowering some of my loads just for plinking purposes to conserve existing supplies. I have plenty of factory duplication loads on my shelf.

It reminds me of the 160 grain hard cast I used to mold and size. As an experiment my brother drilled a hole in the front center. The hole was the size of a small rifle primer. One for the bottom of the hole turned anvil up, a short piece of hard steel wire put in the center with a little bullseye to hold it, then another primer anvil down making it flush with the top of the bullet and sealed with fingernail polish. Making it an explosive type projectile.
This was many years ago so WARNING , this may now be an illegal thing to do. Check regulations before attempting to duplicate.

Interesting in that I always liked 38/.357 semi wadcutters when I owned a Dan Wesson. I'd like to see some gel tests with these with added hollow points.

Loads of Bacon does quite a few lead hollow point videos and gel tests. This is his channel.
